Raynauds - cracks in finger ends

Does anyone with Raynauds get those horrible painful cracks in finger ends. Have tried various dry skin products Neutrogena is the best. I have always suffered in the winter time but for the last couple of years in summer as well. Could it be time for medication for the Raynauds ?

Yes, I get those cracks too - very sore when you knock against something! I take Nifedipine for the Raynauds, but I still get the cracks in the end of my fingers. You have my sympathy!

I try everything i can to not get these as I had one turn into an ulcer that took 4 months to heal and I have permanent tissue damage from it. I take nifedipine also 30 - 60 mg depending on the time of year and weather. when it is really cold I can get up to 60 MG twice a day if needed. My nerves are super fried and painful anyways but it definitely help and really help circulation so tiny cracks heal faster. I also use a really thick balm i made from coconut oil, beeswax, avocado oil and lots of anti inflammatory essential oils. I use it throughout the day and especially right before bed. the more moisturized and healthy you keep the skin the better so a a balm, slave or really thick skin healing lotion would be used a lot. I keep it in my car, by my bed and in the bathroom.

Hi, I too started get cracks on my fingers, more so than normal, as you say, it doesn’t usually get this bad until the really cold season is upon us. Mainly sore on my knuckle pads on index fingers and thumb, but now I see it creeping onto my other fingers very slightly. I tried all the creams and vasaline but my consultant had said to avoid any steroid creams like E45, nothing was working especially with more hand washing and sanitising needed due to COVID. I stumbled across my tattoo balm that I bought last year, and so far it’s really helping, just need a small dab on each sore spot. Maybe give it a try, best of luck x

I use O'Keefe's working hands cream and find it very effective at repairing these splits. Might be worth a try for you?

Hi

It is very important you look after your fingers as it could lead to infection

I'm on medication called nafedapine this helps see you GP I also cover my hands in dermatitis base cream and wear cotton gloves at night keeps them moisturised

The reason why they crack is because with raynauds the skin becomes tight.

But dont delay treatment

Hope this helps

Definitely O'Keefe's working hands for me. You don't need too much at a time and I find it is really helpful as I wash my hands a lot at work. A thicker layer of cream before bed means that I wake up with softer hands. I have tried numerous creams over the years and this is the best I have used.

A bit of an odd reply - it's simply to say "thank you" for asking this question. I have started getting sensitivity problems with my finger ends over the past few weeks and was thinking of asking for help. So many useful answers here and now I understand more about the issues, so thank you all.

I hope these ideas help you.

Keep safe and well. xx

Hi,

I used to get the same problem. I’m diagnosed with systemic sclerosis scleroderma.

I used “fucebet” cream prescribed by the quack. That helped them to heal. Then the trick is to keep up the circulation for which I am now prescribed sildenafil 150mg daily and 60mg of nifidapine. I did not try gtn patches on my hands. Worked ok but got bad headaches. Have a word with your rheumatologist. My bet is the Sildenafil will help you the best. Once you get more circulation then your problems will, I’m sure, reduce.

Good luck. Mark.
