Osteopenia with steroid use?

Hi, just got the results back from my bone scan as I’ve been on prednisone for 3/4 years now and it shows osteopenia/bone thinning. I’m starting treatment with calcium, vit d and some sort of acid - just getting prescription later today. Anyone else had this n did you discontinue steroid use or was treatment effective? Thanks

Sorry should also note my mobility is limited so any amount of weight bearing exercise is possibly going to be counter productive

Hi -I had the same : have to have zolendronic acid infusions ( once a year) as alendronic acid orally is too abrasive ( as have hiatus hernia and reflux).Awaiting repeat bone scan this year to see whether treatment effective. (Like you I have mobility issues and I am overweight so cant do weight bearing exercises) I have been on prednisone for 6 years.

Thank you. That’s really helpful. I have really bad reflux too so did wonder how it was going to go. Good luck with your next scan. I really hope it has made a difference
