Hi. Just thought I would let you know I have been having excruciating stomach pains for 18 months. The gastro-enterologist said it was overgrowth of bacteria in my gut associated with Scleraderma. Nothing seemed to work so I decided to try Acidophilus ( good bacteria) 3million strength 2 per day. My pains have completed gone now. By the way they are on sale at the moment £8.99 for 60 plus buy extra bottle for 1p at a certain high street health shop. They are also vegetarian. Hope this helps.

I've suffered from malnourishment from bacterial overgrowth after years of symptoms and confirmed by a breath test. I have to take antibiotics occasionally to get rid as it's methane based overgrowth which is harder to treat. I know that some probiotics can make it worse, there are several different types and you have to get the right sort, especially with antibiotics . I ought to get some more, you just get fed up with it all after a while.

Hello MissusTee, I should have read your response before replying to Denton1. Bacterial growth is identified by breath test then. Thank you.

Hello Dentin1, that is so interesting. I have terrible stomach pains. Recently diagnosed with scleroderma following tests and scans that also identified a stone in my liver which is thought to be the cause of the pain. I have just been given the go ahead for it to be removed as my heart issues are settled. Deep down I feel that (given my luck) I will have the stone removed and the pain will continue as it's more central rather than towards my liver, it will then be attributed to scleroderma. I'll check out these pills you mention. Out of interest how was the bacteria overgrowth identified? Take care.

Hi Marbelna

Bacteria overgrowth was identified by a specimen. I wish you all the very best and hope that the removal of the stone will clear up your pains. It certainly sounds like you will feel better after your operation. Scleraderma, I have found out has so many conditions. I, after reading what others have written, consider myself very lucky. Take care x
