Hi gussy3 , can i ask what type of scleroderma do you have ? Gel insoles might help or a referral to a chiropodist . I hope you get some help with this.
hello, I agree with weathervane. I have the same problem and the podiatrist, preferably at the hospital, should be able to help you with insoles.
Going to the bus podiatrist 're this exact same thing. The ends of my toes are the worst plus the feeling of walking on large pebbles all the time.☹
Walkings like torture even with good footware too long on your feet and !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Acupuncture found was great could walk normally.... for a while.
I think that we all have that, but it's cyclical, sometimes better.
I have the same problem and have been going to see a podiatrist and chiropodist for the last 18years. And my podiatrist has always told me to go back to them before the years up from when you were last seen otherwise if it over a year you are in danger of them automatically discharging you and you will then have to go back through your GP again and the whole process just to see someone.
Hi
NHS podiatry is the best way forward, before I was diagnosed I found myself spending a fortune going privately and not having as good a job done. I buy a brand of mules and sandals called Alegria they are expensive but they are excellent value because I have had them for years. They have a rocking sole which takes pressure off the base of the foot, I
use my orthotics in the winter but this seems to be the answer for me for the summer. Also make sure you do not build up hard skin or corns in this area which can easily happen so I guess a visit to a chiropodist might be needed. When your feet hurt its utterly miserable and restrictive so I wish you well.
Hi, Gussy, what exactly is this disease you have, can you explain it to me, please? I have painful feet, but mine is through Pustular, psoriasis, and my feet have suffered so much, It would be interesting to learn about other things that can and do go wrong.
Commiserations - I have the same problem.
My remedies:
* special orthotic insoles made by NHS orthopaedics,
* proper walking boots able to hold the insoles (I use Scarpa and Keen, the Scarpa are best),
* NHS chiropody / podiatry every couple of months to remove plaguey corns and calluses that inevitably develop on pressure points (toes, pads),
* develop my own chiropody skills,
* never walk in bare feet on hard surfaces if I can help it,
* people say skin-softening creams (eg urea cream) can help, but I am have not tried them.
Hope this advice helps a bit. The loss of padding means that one is walking on one's bones, with consequent ongoing deep-tissue trauma and callusing. I guess losing weight would be an option if I was not already reduced to skin & bone. The key things were the boots and insoles and ongoing chiropody - without them I'd be lost.
Best wishes,
Tim
Hello,I have insoles from the Hospital. I buy Hotter shoes & sandals, They have Velcro fastenings so you can loosen then to get a sole in. You can get Hotter on line. the chemist sell gel soles, very soft and comfortable. hope this helps.
