Glomerular Filtration Result

Hello all, I been on mycophenolate 1gr/day for 15weeks now. My recent blood test results show that my glomerular filtration is 88 ml/min/1.73m2, while the normal range should start from 90. Apparently this result shows my kidney function is not good. I would like to know if somebody has similar experience to mine. Recently, I also noticed that my urine has little bubbles which disappears within 2mins. I haven’t touch alcohol for over a year, never smoke, barely eat meat and try to live and eat healthy. Is there anyway I can improve my kidney function? Please help!!! Many thanks in advance

I was told 10 years ago that I had Chronic Kidney Disease and was prescribed Candesartan among all my other tablets for other things. I have regular blood tests to check my Kidney function, and it has improved a little and although not as good as it should be it has stabilised. It did dip at the beginning to borderline level for referral but then it recovered again as long as I take it daily.

Seaside thank you for your kind reply. i’m not sure if I should go to my GP and ask for a referral, any idea? I’m happy you’re responding to your meds well.

It wouldn't do any harm to go talk to your GP and see if they think you need a referral at this stage. If it puts your mind at rest it would be worth it as stress doesn't help either. Who requested the blood test?

I got a systemic sclerosis and my Rheumatologist requested a blood test once a month. It has been “normal” before now. May be this is the side effects of my meds. Seaside, thanks for your time and yes, worry makes the situation worse. I’ll wait until my next blood test results. I appreciate your reply.

No problem that is what we are all here for, to help and support each other. You could be right about the meds causing the different result in your test. The Rheumatologist will see the results and if they feel the need to see you I would think they would contact you.

I, too, have a poor GFR in the past. At the time, I was taking Ibuprofen containing medication, which is hard on the kidneys. I stopped taking it and I drink water, herbal teas because they are caffeine free, organic 100% cranberry juice diluted with filtered water, and organic 2% milk, usually as hot chocolate with organic cocoa. I take Shaklee nutritional supplements, among these are: joint health complex, B complex, Vita Lea women's formula, menopause balance complex, calcium and vitamin D. I am gluten free due to gluten allergy. I also eat organic fruits and vegetables. I will always struggle with worry regarding my health; I have Raynaud's phenomenon secondary to mixed connective tissue disease. I am allergic to aspirin and am very cautious with medications. I can safely take acetaminophen products. I do not take any prescription medications. I take Twin Labs brand of Niacin to keep circulation functioning well so I do not get ulcers on my fingers. Everyone here is struggling and trying to cope with the limitations caused by Lupus, Schleroderma, Mixed Connective Tissue disease, Raynaud's Phenomenon, etc. We are here to encourage and listen to each other. Hello Beaglab, thank you for being so kind. You along with others in the community has helped me a lot.

Are you taking parma meds for your disease? I read about niacin for raynauds, I must give it a try. I’m on mychophenolate for my systemic scleroderma, I’m concerned if niacin will not agree with mycophenoalte and vice versa.

Is your GFR now back to normal?

Hi Maharlika,

Yes, my GFR is normal. I corrected the problem right after I got the test results, that was in 2008, I think. No, I do not take any prescriptions, too many risks and side effects. Niacin should not have negative reactions with your other medications, but ask your doctor and research it yourself. Read "Niacin, the Real Story". Have a good evening.
