Seeing the effects of having a low auto immune system

I posted here pre Christmas re a cough I had had since October 2014. I was x rayed and ct scanned which showed up bacterial infection. Fortunately my local teaching hospital was running a drug trial for this 'unknown' cough so I am on a 3 month x 3 times a week antibiotics. I still have over a month to go but although I have made great strides to being my old self, I still have a morning chesty productive cough. Pre going on the trial I had 3 courses of antibiotics. I wondered if anyone else had experienced this 'unknown' cough which is so very stubborn.

Hi, 3 years ago I had really nasty chest infection and still today I have an irritating cough. It just won't go away. I have SLE and many other things and I have questioned whether it's the drugs but consultant says no. It wears me out sometimes!

Thanks for your response. I guess I am just going to have to be a patient patient and hope that I will get a good result at the end of the course of anti biotics.

I also had a cough that lasted for months, since the cough started around the same time that I started Lisinopril for my HP we thought it was the med. after changing HP med, cough continued. It than developed to a nasty sinus infection that wouldn't clear. Finally after demanding antibiotics from my physician, he placed me on a 7 day antiobiotic treatment and cleared it immediately. I have been good ever since., both cough and sinus.

Thanks for your reply. I believed a hard dry cough I had all last summer was scl. Meds but then it developed into this other stage almost overnight. Anyway I will keep taking the tablets and hopefully will see a cough free summer at the end of the trial.

I had a persistent cough about 4 years ago which turned out to be ILD fibrosis of the lung. I have Scleroderma.

Thanks for this information. I have just completed a 3 months research trial and the antibiotics over this period have certainly helped but I still wake up every day coughing however I am optomistic that maybe before the winter my body will find the energy to fight off the remaining lingering infection.
