Anyone fancy moving abroad to a warmer climate?

My Raynard's gets me down so much. I feel I would be so much happier in a hot country. Australia maybe? Has anyone moved away? Or fancy it?

Hi Sophat88.......I went to Australia for a month 2 years ago and stayed for 4 days in Malaysia on the way out there.....and on the way back home I holidayed in Dubai for 4 days.....to be perfectly honest,.......the change in weather didn't improve my symptoms... as I found that every hotel, home, shop, restaurant and bus shelter I came across had air conditioning which played havoc with my raynauds symptoms.....and to top it all off,.... when ever I enjoyed a dip in the hotel pool, I had a raynauds attack......this was due to light breezes which cooled my extremeties when I left the pool....... however, you will all agree.that we all welcomed the change in weather ...... unfortunately many of us still have painful episodes of raynauds.......oh dear I feel so pessimistic and very negative, but my extremities are always painful throughout all seasons and where ever I am am in the world...............................

HIya ! Im with wartsandall on this one - I lived in Fuerteventura (one of the Canary Islands) back in 2004 for 5 months, 7 years post diagnosis, and I had the same experience - yes it was nicer weather, but the attacks were still there as highlighted by wartsandall.

I also have an all year round hypersensitive temperature gauge- I have worn Ugg boots for 5 years now - I cant wear shoes even with socks, as my feet get too cold and I need support for my ankles ! Living the dream

Aww bless. I like to wear thick socks but can't get away with ugh boots as I live in manchester now and it's forever raining!!! Try the heat gen thermals from m and s! I think they're the answer.

Im in sunny Southport so just round the corner from you ! I have a fleece pair of Moov boots for the rain - just up a notch on the style front from a wellie ! haha however, I will only go out in the rain if i really have to, as more than likely I will have blue hands and feet going out in the rain - So hospital appointments only. I will have a look out for those m+s beauties though - thanks x

Yes, air conditioning is awful. First thing I do in any hotel in hot countries is turn it off. I hate going supermarket shopping on a hot day as I always get attacks and have to take a jumper to wear while walking round. My mate laughs, when he is in shorts and I'm all wrapped up.

I moved to Southern Spain 12 years ago (after UK doctors told me it was the best thing to do!) and I have found it a brilliant help, in fact lots of people we know here are surprised how big a problem I had when I lived in Chester. You just need to be careful about air con etc I usually just open a window on each side of the room ( we designed our house ourselves and it caters for me well) and allow a breeze to blow through (warm air ) when it gets really warm I use a fan as well but not directly on the main area of room, round a corner so it does not effect me. I only swim in the pool when the temperature of the pool is 28 degrees or more and I use a hot tub / jacuzzi the rest of the time ...... I know I am lucky to be able to have moved and live like this but in reality my quality of life is much improved by coming to Spain. I am treated by the state health service here and it is brilliant !! As to work, I started off living in Spain and working "remotely" for the UK company that I ran, however I gave that up and now rent out holiday properties here - they are heated, have hot tubs etc and are often booked by people with "conditions" helped by a stay in a warmer climate.

Anyway in reponse to the question .... yes we did it and moved to Spain and it has worked for me.

Wow there you go! So you don't suffer from air conditioning there? And wow your doctor actually recommended this.... This sounds perfect! I'm in Manchester which is not far at all from Chester. It's so nice to hear a successful story. Thank you for sharing with me.

I would love to move. It was would just be a case of getting work out there for and learning Spanish! And missing my friends and family but a warmer climate would be AMAZING! Xx

It took me a year to agree to move abroad after the doctors told me! But I have never regretted doing it, my life is so much better. I still get Raynauds but no where near as often or as bad.

We rarely use air con as it does cause me problems, when we do we have them set to about about 27 degrees!! I was only 39 when we moved and had kids still at school and university, so yes it does take some organising and the job issue was sorted by having the holiday rentals (we have 2 here and 1 in Chester). The family have been very supportive because they know the reason we moved was for my health and you end up being very popular ..... the family love popping out for a holiday in the sun! Last week we had my husbands Mum, our son, daughter in law and their 5 month old daughter staying for 10 days.

It is 10.30 in the morning and 22 degrees! xx

I see this is an old thread but...Yes! I think about it constantly. I used to live in South Florida and had a job that allowed me to be outside a lot. I was so convinced I was cured that I moved back to Texas to be near family. Texas gets well below freezing for weeks at a time in winter and is hyper-air conditioned otherwise. Raynaud's attacks are constant so I am exploring ways to move to a tropical climate. Any ideas?! I'd be happier eating rice and beans and sleeping in a hammock in a tropical climate that enduring another ice storm in Texas!
