It may seem a silly question but I'm curious. I have Raynaud's in my feet and hands. With flying some people get DVT (deep vein thrombosis) so does anyone wear those socks for flying and does it have to be declared for insurance?
Flying: It may seem a silly question... - Scleroderma & Ray...
Flying
I always wear the socks especially for long flights but have never declared it on insurance. If asked I would ask if I needed to declare the the ear plugs that I also view as a necessity in such circumstances!
Cheers Ruth462 - thank you
Hiya I have deliberately stayed in the UK for the last few years, but when I went abroad before that, i did declare my diagnosis (scleroderma and raynauds) and this didnt bring any extras ! i also made sure I kept my hands and feet nice and cosy, as well as had a blanket just incase.... one draft of that air conditioning would be enough to set me into blue mode !
Happy holidays !! where are you going ? x
Hi thank you, not going anywhere yet but thinking about it, but didn't want any hiccups.
Hi. I also have raynauds and scleroderma and was told by my rhumy. ' your blood has enough of a problem getting round so don't wear socks and give it any more of a struggle'. In the past few years I have done loads of long haul going round the world 3 times plus Japan and China. I have never had any problems so far. I always wrap in a blanket and exercise my feet regularly also drink lots of water. I do take ginko which I feel helps with circulation. Good luck hope this helps. X
Thank you Gillg, my Rheumy indicated my feet should always be warm. Even with two pairs of thick socks they are never warm. But thank you
Hello there. It's always a good idea to ask questions if you are unsure of anything. Last year I went on a long-haul flight and wore support stockings as my mobility is limited. It didn't even cross my mind to ask about Raynaud's and flying but now I am curious too. I declared all my medical problems when looking for travel insurance and had a tough time finding any to cover me but it was not due so much to my Raynaud's but mainly due to me having had a total hip replacement. I would contact the airline company and ask your doctor what is best, to wear or not to wear support stockings. If you are mobile just make sure to excercise your legs and walk around as much as possible on the flight. All the best.

Thanks graygirl1, I'm not very mobile at all (feet) no plans at the moment to fly, but looking at next year so was curious. Thank you.
I'll see what I can find out and let you know. I'm sure others are now as curious we are now.
take care and I hope you will be able to travel and have a great time. Itoo hope to travel between now and the autumn, if not, next spring/summer. I'll be sixty next year if my life is spared so I am thinking, finance and health permitting, I would like to go on a med or caribbean cruise to celebrate. Have a nice weekend. Keep as warm as possible and give yourself a little treat. Mine is going to be a slice of carrot cake and a nice cuppa then bed. No calorie counting this weekend for me.
lol ooo carrot cake yummy. Thanks
