Flying with severe lung conditions.

II rarely take holidays abroad, so when I was given the opportunity for a holiday in Marrakech I never gave a thought to my health causing a problem. Now as the date is nearing I'm wondering ,is it ok and safe to fly with Bronchiectasis? (my other conditions are limited Scleroderma and CREST syndrome. I'm also Asthmatic...)

Ask your doctor and make sure that you are medically covered.

I have Raynauds and Scleroderma with fibrosing alveolitis and regularly have lung function tests at the Royal Brompton Hospital. Last year I had a Fitness to Fly test and was advised that I would need oxygen on any future flights. Getting travel insurance has never been a problem with my medical conditions and needing oxygen has not made any difference to that. It can make travelling more expensive as some airlines do charge but not all. It causes a little more hassle as you have to make sure that the oxygen is booked and there are forms for your doctor to complete. But nothing too horrendous. You need to check with your consultant if it is safe for you to fly and if it is then everything else can be sorted. Hope all works out ok and you have a marvellous holiday

Thankyou so much for your very reassuring advice nannysue1950, I have an appointment booked with GP, so will request these forms etc. from him. I do feel happier about going now, and it's not a long flight so hopefully all will be fine. xx
