insomnia and toddlers

hiya

I started experiencing insomnia after my first baby where the pressure to ‘sleep when the baby sleeps’ got too much.

I can’t take any medication as I need to be alert if my little one wakes in the night which is still quite often.

Does anyone have any experience of this and if so how did you manage it?

My experience with Ambien/Zolpidem is that I can cut the pill in two or three pieces -- depending on whether it is 5mg or 10mg --and take only one piece when I awake at night to use the bathroom. Couple of hours later I can get up feeling fine.

After it came out that Ambien doubled accident likelihood -- at home or driving -- MDs started running for the exits so you might encounter some resistance on the part of your doc -- don't be afraid to try different docs -- some worry more than others. Also my experience.

Before that report, 85% or sleep prescriptions were Ambien -- everybody's favorite -- especially because of the lack of drug hangover in the morning.
