my cpap makes the air I’m breathing feel very stuffy … not quite got to grips with this …. As I’m new to this I’m wondering could it be a machine problem …. I sort of thought my air would feel clear … sorry for so many questions …. I’ve washed tubing and filter btw…

I am wondering if the sleep clinic provided you with a water humidifier. If not, I would recommend that you ask for one , I cannot use my machine without one, it's too dry and stuffy. Also, you will need to check with them that your minimum required pressure is set correctly. My minimum pressure is set to 10. I have been using my CPAP machine for over 3 years and it is the best thing ever.

thanks for your reply Lydia … I have since had a humidifier and changed masks several times. It’s better to use than before or I’m adapting …. But still don’t feel great … fatigue during the day …. My pressure is no higher than 13 and starting at 5…

Hi Delilahmy, I really think that your minimum pressure is too low and also your maximum pressure is not at a therapeutic level at 13.

Ask your sleep clinic to adjust your pressure levels. If they won't, you can do it yourself. Google your make and model of machine with the words how to access the clinicians menu and you will find out how to do it.

Mine is set at minimum 10 and the maximum is left open. Most machines maximum is 20. I also recommend that you visit cpaptalk.com they are very helpful and you will find a lot of useful information on there.

As things are, it doesn't seem like you are getting the maximum therapy from your machine with the current settings.

Thankyou Lydia … I agree … I have been back for a refit and also questioned my 02 levels…. I have used a Garmin watch and 02 is still in high 70’s low 80s. The clinic is sending me their own pulse oximiter…. It may be that the readings are incorrect … I will ring and ask about the settings although have appointment in Jan

Therapeutic pressure range is tailored to the individual not a one size fits all. For example my minimum is 4 and my maximum is 10. I wouldn't recommend you change yours yourself, the sleep clinic will have set them based on your sleep study. One thing to consider asking them, is whether you would benefit from cpap instead. This is continuous pressure at a set rate. You will get stable eventually, you just need to find the best solution for you.
