cant sleep because im scared i will die

ive been averaging 3-4hrs of sleep this past week, and have had two allnighters. This is mainly due to the fact that im scared my heart will stop in my sleep.

in the beginning of the week i had a notif from my apple watch saying my hr went down to 42bpm for 10 minutes. i was concerned as it never goes down that low. since then ive been checking my sleeping hr and its around 48-50bpm give or take. im not healthy nor an athlete and it just feels like its beating too slow :// i also used to be able to feel my heart beating in my chest, but now i cant.

anyways now i have a fulls day work w little sleep and i feel horrible

Not sleeping is so difficult. I have had sleeping problems for years.

If you have concern about your heart please call your md. Get checked out and this will help settle your mind.

Hopefully once you get checked you will be able to relax a bit and get some sleep.

Ive had a holter monitor, ecg and stress test done last year. however that was for my high hr and palpitations. everything came back fine.

im just scared that this is something new..

That's good you had all that done. That's a great workup.

I think the best thing to do is call the md and ask. Alleviate the anxiety with professional answers.

Some people genetically have low heart rates. I think if you're feeling otherwise we'll and all your medical testing is fine, you shouldn't worry about it. Stressing about it is probably much worse for your health than the rate itself. I suggest you take off the monitor you're wearing unless your doctor told you to wear it for testing purposes.

my therapist have said that my watch will exacerbate my anxiety due to my obsessive habits and catastrophizing but its rlly hard for me to do so

As we get older our natural pacemaker can get a little wonky if it continues you might need a pacemaker but as long as you don't feel weird and are not passing out your okay so don't worry about it just tell your doctor.

oh I dont have a pacemaker. I have had tests on my heart middle last year and the doctor had said there was nothing wrong. I went to the gp about my low hr last week and they have ordered a blood test

I have been going to the doctor for low heart rate myself. As we get older our heart's natural pacemaker does not work as well as it did when we were younger, or it can go wacky because of menopause. My doctor told me to not worry unless I feel weird and start passing out. The worst case scenario is I would need a pacemaker.

I'm actually only 21. May I ask how low your heartrate is? When you are sleeping, resting or active.

It is goes as low as 46. My son's twenty-two-year-old girlfriend regularly has her heart rate at rest in the 40s. And as long as it's not causing you to feel really dizzy and pass out your heart's doing what it should, but for peace of mind I do recommend getting tests done. I also have an anxiety disorder and have had help controlling my fears with cognitive behavior therapy. My cardiologist said he's not going to do any tests as long as I feel normal. He says if I start to feel weird or pass out then I will wear a monitor for several days so he can record that it is actually as low as I'm telling him it is at home. I noticed my heart rate gets lower when I don't eat enough. When we worry we release adrenaline and other stress hormones which helps keep us awake so you got to get your worrying under control. I read everything I could get my hands on before I got therapy and I'm doing much better.

Did you lose someone recently did you have a death in the family or death of a loved one this type of anxiety took over when a family member who was very ill and old passed away I started heart monitoring myself I was convinced I was going to drop dead the minute I fell asleep I went to see a psychiatrist and she was very helpful about these thoughts it is most likely linked to guilt or survivor's guilt or a fear of death no need to fear death also it could be an overactive thyroid it took me several months but I no longer dwell on any of that I stopped taking my heart beat my heart beat I had a recording on my phone and gave it to my doctor and he said your heartbeat is well within normal and he had no no cause of concern however he didn't like the fact I wasn't getting enough sleep my best advice is to speak to someone about your internal conflicts and that particular obsession because somehow you picked that obsession it's linked to something in your life I assure you you're okay

I think that's very good advice that's what people told me when I was obsessing with that was to get checked out by a cardiologist and then talk to a psychiatrist
