Hello all ! It has been 3 months since I had my last scan and it was NED. I am due to have another one in 2 weeks but I am afraid to have it now because of the Covid virus. If I contract the virus while I am at hospital for scan, then chances are, I wont survive since I am 71 and chemo probably has compromised my immune system. No one has all the details about the virus, one day they say one thing and then another the following day and I really wonder if I wait for a couple of more months to have that scan then possibly more info about this will be known. I fear the possibility of getting this virus. It only takes one person to not have washed hands right or for this virus to be on the scan bed or in the room that someone forgot to clean and I make contact! Is waiting longer than 3 months for another scan too risky or would you hold off for now as well? I have OV stage 3C, had chemo and total hysterectomy and omentectomy as well. I was told on Jan. 15th, I was NED. From what I have read, Mayo Clinic claims that my having a recurrence is less likely to happen because of all that was removed. Not sure how true that is though but I hope it is fact! So, what would you do? I am so torn over this!

scan or no scan?
I think in your situation I'd be inclined to ask if I could reschedule or even push to reschedule. Even if something showed on the scan (which is unlikely), many oncologists still opt to wait until you're experiencing symptoms to start treatment anyway. Just my non-doctor opinion! Stay well and take care! Deb in Colorado
Hello Heidels. I'm not a doctor so of course I would suggest you speak to your oncologists/doctor first about postponing your scan. I understand your fears. I myself postponed a chemo session because of my fears of Covid19. I consulted with my oncologist first. So my advice is to ask first: can this be postponed and your health not be compromised. I think they will let you postpone because the stress and anxiety caused by taking the scan can not be good for you either.. All the best
My history is comparable to your's and I have scans every six months. I agree with the other lady's responses. You could check with your doc, but I think the risk of contracting the virus is still to great at this stage. Stay safe and well. If you can stay home, then that would be the best option.
Hello Heidels
Firstly I understand your real concerns but I would recommend that you talk to your doctor's before making a decision. Your situation is very similar to mine but other than a couple of u/s scans I have not had a CT scan since I finished chemo nearly two years ago. I have been NED since that time. So frequent CT scans are not always deemed necessary or even desirable. It's possible a 3 month wait won't be a problem at all but, as I said, please discuss your concerns with your doctors before making a final decision. It has just occurred to me that I assumed you meant a three monthly CT scan (which on the face of it does seem a little unusual) but if it was an u/s scan my suggestion still applies. I wish you all the best whatever you decide to do.
