I'm just shy of 15 years since my diagnosis. One of the most often question I'm asked is what did I do that enables me to be here today. Did I change my diet? Eat special foods or supplements? The answer is I didn't change anything. What I can suggest is the best advice - maintain a healthy life style. It enables your body to have the best chance at doing it's job to ward of diseases, cancer or otherwise. If I were to follow my own advice, I have to admit I would lose some weight and control that hand mouth coordination that I've mastered so well.
While the following link was written for breast cancer patients, it is very applicable to us as ovarian cancer survivors. It debunks 5 of the most common nutrition myths.
Thank you GwenHP for your inspiring post. It's so important that we see some positive outcomes as we all struggle with our diagnosis. I'm so pleased you've done well and I hope that you'll continue to do so. I think we analyse all the time about what we should and shouldn't be doing but generally we have no control over this awful cancer. As you say though the best thing we can do is to maintain a healthy lifestyle and give our bodies the best chance of getting through chemo and coming out the other side. I think we have to also listen to our bodies and if we feel exhausted then we rest, if we want to eat bland, plain food after chemo then we should do so or if we want a glass of wine and a bar of chocolate then we do that too! We're also all pretty amazing in my estimation!
Thanks for the food for thought. Also thanks for the inspiring words. It's so encouraging to hear stories of long-term success with the fight of this disease. Blessings to you and your family
