Diagnosed stage 3c ovarian cancer in Nov 2014. On taco carboplatin. Was a walk in park. Didn't feel like I had cancer. Had the surgery in May 2015. Recovered quickly. Cancer returned several months later, but my wonderful doctor was confident. Put me on doxil. No problem with that. Went into small remission or at least she gave me the summer off. Then for the first time almost three years after I was diagnosed I have hit some bumps. Tried carboplatin again...major allergic reaction...my doctor's staff saved my life since I was at another of their offices and my doctor was 30 miles away dealing with another medical emergency. I went unconscious, terrible cramping, blood pressure went haywire, heart rate jumping all over, emts were called. Regained consciousness after a few minutes, didn't recognize my daughter and cursing everyone. Horrible stomach cramping. At the hospital, doctor said most likely they saved me from a stroke and possible death. My doctor is concerned that cancer is pressing on the tube leading from my kidney to bladder so I had to have a double nephrostomy. I must have had more ct scans, mris and ultrasounds in the past month and a half than I can count. A few days ago they kind a small blood clot in my lung so now I am on lovenox. I am also brca 1 positive. I know I am having an easier time than others and I am truly blessed with my support system, but I want to be realistic. My dr. says she has more options for me and it is still early and the good news is I have only had contact with three chemo drugs which she said was good. I am not in pain but I feel my cancer companion is sharpening his teeth and I don't have enough armor against him.

Rest assured your doctor wasn't wrong when she said she has more options. For one, since you are BRCA positive, there are PARP inhibitors as one example. There are also a number of other drugs out there both in clinical trials as well as approved for ovarian cancer. Hang in there. Hoping that one of them gives you a sustained remission!
Best wishes,
Gwen

I am also Brca positive . I am on a PARP inhibitor called Rubraca . It is a drug recently approved by FDA. The drug specifically attacks BRCA cancer cell mutation . The drug inhibits a protein that the cancer needs to live . I just started taking it . Side effects include lethargy , sometimes nausea , lack of appetite . It is in pill form . 600 mg in morning (2 pills) and 600 mg at night )
Best wishes for you fellow survivor .
It sounds like you have a great medical team. Hang in there!
