Complete historectomy due to ovarian cancer.

I am actually trying to help a friend who says she feels horrible everyday and sad and just wants to have her life back! She is asking me if she will ever be better? Can you shed some light?? She does not want to take tons of meds.

Hi Kristen how lucky your friend is to have such a caring friend as you. Yes the hysterectomy really does take it out of you and you feel a lot worse if you reduce the pain meds too quickly. The low mood then becomes worse when you are in pain and we all tend to dwell on the negative. I have OC 3c and instead of wanting my old life back I want to enjoy the life I've got. Things are different but I am the same person. If you can try to replace the understandable anger to the disease with a gritty determination to enjoy the little things in life, no matter what is thrown at you then in my experience things look a lot better. If you can get her to go out with you for a nice coffee or a cinema visit or even a walk in the winter sunshine that could also help. In answer to her question then things will get better.

Hi Kristen-What a great friend you are and especially in her time of greatest need. You might want to show her many of the posts on this incredible site. these women share everything and really help and inspire all. I have learned so much here from these amazing women. I wish we could all meet and be together for a time.

There are many awesome survival stories here, some from the seemingly darkest place a person could be in but have risen up and beat this beast called cancer back to hell where it came from.

Let your friend talk and get out her feelings. go to her appointments as her advocate, be someone she can lean on . I always tried to put up a good front in front of my family as I did not want to worry them. Be that person she can go to in her darkest hour. good advise from previous gal. Get her out in the sunshine. Let her know she is not alone and first and formost have her try to keep a positive outlook. A doctor once told me that 80% of survival is in your head. Your mind and body are of one. One feeds the other. If you tell yourself and your immune system that you can beat his perhaps you can. Our outlook is everything. We cannot separate mind and body.

Come here often and bring your friend. she can private message anyone of us and I am sure we will respond.

God bless you for being such a good friend.

Xx Carol

Can you tell us a little more about your friend and where she is in her journey? Has she started chemo?

GwenHP, pain meds are central nervous system depressants. They cause depression. Please get your friend outside for a walk. Get up and move around. Just the act of changing scenery can help a suffering person to adjust their thinking. We all want our lives back. After OC each woman's new normal is different and sometimes a moving target. After over a year of treatment I am now 7 months in remission. I am ecstatic and enjoying every single moment from washing the dishes to mopping my floors, enjoying my family, going out for dinner, visiting friends, everything is enjoyable. I am so grateful to be comfortable, alive and to enjoy my children. See my profile for details. Your friend would probably be inspired to read about the compassionate women in this group.
