Reaching for hope

My MIL was diagnosed with ovarian cancer that has spread to intestines, last week. She has been in ICU since today and has pulmonary embolisms and pneumonia. She is 62. They’re treating her for the PE and pneumonia now and waiting on the surgery that was scheduled for May 20th. I know all of this doesn’t sound good. But is there any shimmer of hope in this situation?

Hej...Don`t give up hope. After treatment for pneumonia etc then she can concentrate on OC treatment. I too was diagnosed with OC in 2012 with metastasis all over and so bad that I was given chemo taxle/carbo prior to debulking operation. (doctors prefer to debulk first) Results were so fantastic that all talk of stomi and removal of other organs other then hysterectomy were dropped. After hysterectomy I was given three more chemo series and all cancer was gone. I lived without medication, back to work etc...after all that and was cancer free until recurrence june 2018. I now know that I am BRACA 2 positive so I have chosen to take olaparib this time around. PLEASE dont give up hope. Praying... X

Thank you so much and this is so wonderful to hear! They are going to go ahead with chemo first so I am hoping she does well too. Thank you for the hope! And cheers to continued health for you

There is always hope. I got cellulitis and shingle in my left eye, forehead, and scalp after my 3rd chemo. I almost died twice that week in the hospital. But I made it through and am still here. The hospital is the best place she can be now. Love and prayers!

Hey Emily, There is still hope. When I was diagnosed last year I was also in Highcare. The cancer had spread to my lungs and I also had ascites and DVT. I was put on oxygen as I was struggling to breathe. I was treated for the DVT before surgery. A month later I had an operation. Am now undergoing chemo and the ascites has cleared and I feel very good.

I had a Pulmonary Embolism after my surgery and was told it was easy to treat- and it certainly did resolve quite quickly with heparin injections. I also have pneumonitis as a result of my treatment and am on steroids. Hopefully antibiotics will clear it up and then the treatment plan can kick in.

Thank you for the hope.

Update- Now they have discovered a bowel obstruction preventing her from eating/keeping anything down. They’re running tests to determine treatment.
