pain meds
Im currently alternating ibuprofen with Tylenol during the day and a couple hydrocodone code plus THC helps at bedtime. Consulting with radiation next week. The pain is awful!
I am very interested in this. I have been told very conflicting information. Take Paracetamol, but it will damage your liver more or take Ibuprofen which will lower your platelets. Eventually I was given Oxynorm (has several other names). It is lovely. I take them for leg pain x2 the lowest dose, but cant find the fix right now and the leg pain goes away almost straight away and I sleep very well. I am told the dose I am taking is not at all dangerous, but I should not take more. Lidocain sounds intersting, will investigate.
I cannot take NSAIDS so take Tylenol and a Turmeric supplement. The supplement helps me quite a bit. I got the first one from my pharmacy and others from Amazon. Hopes that helps.
I'm sorry you have pain. Would a lidocaine patch control that? Hopefully, your oncologist will order something stronger. I've wondered how they control bone pain but never see anything on it. Surely, they use more than just OTC drugs like motrin and tylenol. Definitely advocate for yourself as this seems to be an area I hear very little about. Hugs to you.
thanks. I been doing both on vacation. Leaving easily to go home. Scans next week. Ugh.
Good luck with the scans. I just had a lot of them, like you, very stressful long day with injections, waiting, and worrying. I do a lot of deep breathing and count my breaths to get through them. The bone scan is the long one, 20 minutes with two 5 minute extra scans . The CT of chest, abdomen and pelvis is only a few minutes but you have to drink two bottles of dye. ugh. Sending good energy your way.
I just get IV contrast injected while I am on CT scan table. I don't have to drink anything. I have been getting CT and bone scans every 3 months since May 2018. Sandra
thank you for sharing that. I also get the injection you described. I have read that they can visualize the structures of abdomen. One scan showed a likely benign area at the head of the pancreas. That resulted in an MRI. It was negative. Now they want a yearly MRI to monitor the pancreas but I might refuse. It's all too much. It's great to hear you are doing well since May of 2018. I am getting worried about the effectiveness of Ibrance as I approach the two year mark of taking it. I hope it continues for years. We'll see.
I was originally prescribed a lidocaine patch and unfortunately, it did not work for me. Radiation helped some, as have zometa infusions over time.
Initially I needed prescription pain medication, hydrocodne, but the pain has improved with my treatments.
Now, CBD cream works really well for me, as does arthritis strength Tylenol.
so sorry about that bone pain…it is difficult to manage in some cases. Not only do I have bone pain but now I have a fractured ilium. From the very beginning I’ve been taking the pain cocktail: acetaminophen and NSAIDs (naproxen). Later I added a daily dose of Loratadine (Claritin) the antihistamine. Cancer cells create histamines as the grow and die which causes the pain and irritation. The antihistamine (but only loratadine) removes those histamines and prevents the pain from worsening. There are other, stronger meds, but i do hope you can avoid those as long as possible. Also, turmeric supplements are another addition to the arsenal….wishing you the best!
