Exercise for Cancer

I see a lot of symptoms that perhaps I can help. I have been on Kisquali for 1.5 years with no symptoms other than feeling tired by day 21. However, it is my advice to take a nap everyday for your health - even it is 10 minutes - I do 30 even if I don't fall asleep. I am a Master of Exercise Science and trained for over 20 years before teaching college Exercise Science. Meaning, I know what I am talking about. I really hope you may find this helpful.

Also, are you moving, exercising? A mini trampoline - not jumping but shifting foot to foot, even side to side for 10 minutes a day will move your lymphatic system. Then go for a walk. I would be glad if you are interested to do a video or send the name of the trampoline.

My point is don't let your cancer regimen get out of control - exercise is critical as part of your daily regimen.

Thank you for this! Yes i'm very interrsted in this! I've been on Kisqali since nov 2021. My oncologist is very pro exercise. I have added complication of arthritis in knee, due knee replacement in May. Any advice welcome. Walking is hard so Im doing pool and exercise bike :-)

Re nap, i think thats a great idea ie to try and move more but then consciously nap rather than just feeling tired and sitting watching tv! I have the calm app so might try that, their nap sleep stories work well.

Hi. Riding a recumbent bike would be great for you and brilliant on pool exercise. In the pool you can do tricep dips on the side, pushups on the steps, walk in the pool, sit and do kicks for your abs (keeping lower body under water). The MaximusPRO rebounder is also the best on the market. It comes with a bar for balance (if needed). Very low impact but great for your lymphatic system. This you could do. You don't literally jump like our children do on a trampoline. MaximusPRO actually has workouts on their website and send you those when you buy it. So worth the purchase and the legs fold in so you can store it.

Also, your knee - I had severe arthritis, bone on bone and chose to do Hyaluronic Acid injections (natural substance found in your joints) - I think you get 4 and in 8 weeks (a full 8 weeks), you feel the results. I feel great and still have not had to do knee replacement.

Good luck.

Hi

Yes exercise is really beneficial! My oncologist is very keen to encourage moment. It can ease joint pain and also help heart health.

Walking is great if you can...as getting out is also a way to relieve stress.

I do pilates, which I find is a great stretch and it's helped to strengthen my muscles to support my joint function. It's really important to find a qualified instructor that knows your background history and can personalise your workout to your abilities. I've got extensive bone mets from head to hips and this worried me as I didn't think I'd be able to exercise as I had pre-diagnosis...I did private sessions for a year to build stamina and confidence, and I'm now in a group that does sessions of an hour 2x a week.

Chair yoga aps are available and seem very manageable for those with more severe joint complications.

With Spring upon us it's a good incentive to try and get out in nature and experience the season! The fields are green and the fruit trees are starting to blossom here. It's my favourite time of year!!

Thank you for this advice. I agree that exercise is very important in cancer treatment and I feel it has made a big difference for me. I found an online exercise program on YouTube that is like Zumba and I do that several times a week and also play golf several times a week. I feel very lucky though that I am not experiencing any pain that would make exercise difficult. I know that others on this site have lots of pain issues or are worried about fractures and it might be difficult for them to find exercises that will help and not hurt them. I hope many reach out to you for help in finding the right exercise program. Take care. Sending hugs and prayers.

The instructors name is Gina B. She is from Australia. She has many different programs out to various types of music. She has low impact routines that are choreographed. She has Latin music, music from the 80's and music from various artists. I love the exercises. If you click on YouTube on your TV and do a search for Gina B, you can find her exercises. Most of them have warm ups and cool downs, but a few do not have the cool downs. However, she has some cool down programs that you can do after the regular exercise routines. Let me know what you think. Sending hugs and prayers.
