Do check on liver functioning measures! I don't know whether my advanced age (78) makes the difference but I don't take any medication specific for my liver lesions. My bloodwork indicates that the measures of my liver functioning (such as ASP, ALT, GGT, ALP, Bilirubin, etc.) are all in the normal range. I have many cancer lesions (skin, spleen, lungs, liver, bones) so I do take Kisqali and letrozole, but nothing else.

I’ve been on Xeloda for 11 months; it’s helped with my liver mets immensely. Not bad side effects either. I keep my feet lotioned up.

Hi ForestHermit, so sorry to hear this news and can imagine what a shock it is. It’s always daunting and scary when the cancer moves to a new location. So I guess the first thing I’d say is that unfortunately this is part of the journey, and the good news is with the many treatment options out there the doctors will have many tools available to continue working on keeping your cancer under control. In my case I discovered progression to the liver one year ago, which was very upsetting, but a year later I’m still doing well on oral meds and living a good life.

As to what meds may be recommended as your next step, it depends on your case & doctors and what medications you have already been on. In my case I had already been on Ibrance & Verzenio (both with Faslodex), so when the liver progression appeared I was put on Xeloda. That worked very well initially but was short-lived so now I’m on Piqray. My next series of options as we go forward will likely include Orserdu, Affinitor, Trodelvy and Enhertu. I hope you have good doctors you can work with to determine your next step.

Lastly I’ve heard of some people trying liver ablation, where their liver mets are zapped and physically reduced - I’ve heard it’s painful but can be effective.

Wishing you strength and calm as you determine the next next steps for you.🙏🏼💜

I’ve been on Ibrance/Faslodex , then Lynparza (gene type specific), then a combo of those three (as part of a trial), now been on Afinitor/Tamoxifen a few months. Liver Mets diagnosed last year, and why I jumped on the trial , still had slow liver progression. Seem to be stable so far with Afinitor! 🤞

Welcome ForestHermit, although sorry you have a need to join us. So you have liver mets, I'm sorry about that but it would be helpful if you would share more about yourself such has is the diagnosis of MBC a new one or have you been diagnosed earlier and on a treatment that has now failed and you need to move onto a new one. I see you are from Canada as I am too so I want you to be aware that many of the treatment options mentioned below from ladies in other countries ( particularly the USA) may not be available to us in Canada. Depending on what province you live in and what type of cancer you have with regard to estrogen/progesterone/HER2 receptor status. Cancer care in Canada operates under a government funded program and cancer drugs are free but there are certain hurdles, first of course they have to be approved by Health Canada(typically that can be a year behind FDA approval), then companies apply to CADTH (Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health) that then provides research and analysis to healthcare decision-makers in each province. From there each provincial cancer drug program decides what to fund. So it is a slow process as you can imagine.

I was diagnosed in 2018 with Denovo MBC to bones only ER/PR + Her2 negative and did well on my first line of Ibrance and Letrozole for 5 years. I am now on my second line and doing well. I'm happy to help with any questions that you might have with regards to treatment options in Canada. Take care. Remember MBC is a marathon, not a sprint.
