hi. I had a cat scan last Friday because of pain in lower right back but it didn’t show anything. Is cat scans with contrast accurate. The pain is so bad I don’t know what to do. The doctor said there was no tumor in back. Thanks so much. Marianne

Perhaps the pain is a nerve problem? I once had so much back pain I thought it was broken. Turns out I had a giant knot in my thigh and everything along the route was all twisted up. Just physical therapy got rid of it. Hopefully yours is something that simple. Good luck 🍀!
CT scans are a broad brush approach so my oncologist told me but for detail they need an MRI. And if it's a crunched nerve an MRI is your best option IMO. Do you have mets in the spine? If the vertebra is affected it can compress the nerves and that does cause pain. I'd definitely bring it to the oncologist's attention that it's still a problem.
Hi
I also had appalling lower back pain. I had an MRI which diagnosed a pressure fracture to a vertebra (T5), caused by a tumour.
If you have no tumour then that won't be the case for you... I would definitely ask for the pain to be investigated further with MRI.
In my case the pain is now completely managed by morphine which works like magic. It took a while on the oral stuff for them to work out how much long-acting morphine I need.
Good luck. I hope you get good pain relief soon.

Hmmm. Maybe you need to see an orthopedic spine surgeon. I've had pain in my back (the lower right and down the leg to the foot). It isn't cancer related; it's from the part of the spine narrowing where the nerves go through to the legs (my surgeon explains it so much better). I have had an MRI for the diagnosis and a steroid epidural shot for relief. The shot worked great for a month or so and, while it has worn off, the pain isn't nearly as bad as before. Worth a try? Back pain is pure misery. Hope you find relief soon. Hugs
I have the same pain. They said I have two fractured vertebrae. I had kyphoplasty done on both. The most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. And they don’t put you to sleep. Bad news is the pain is still there and I’m on opioids for the pain. They sometimes help and other times I think why bother. I do t think my pain will ever go away, sorry to say.
I usually only have CT scans and they are very accurate at showing disease progression. Maybe a bone scan could be asked for? I have these along with CT scans every three months to keep an eye on my disease. I’m sorry you’re in so much pain. Do you have a Palliative care team helping to manage any side effects? I also use Palliative care to manage any pain and it has made a world of difference for me.
