I’ve been on xgeva for 2 years with no side effects. In a month I change to zometa. What can I expect. Has anyone else changed to zometa?

zometa
I have been lucky, no negative reactions at all, with Xgeva or Zometa, make sure you are taking consistently at least 1200mg of Calcium with Vit D3 everyday. They should check your Calcium level to assure it is at least 10 before administering via IV the Zometa. Its going to work faster that the Xgeva since it is given IV. I know many people who take an antihistamine such as Claritin a couple days before their infusion and the day of and tolerate it easier.
I start it May 2, thanks fancydog for letting us know about the Calcium level. I’m very nervous about it. Hugs!
I can’t answer your question about Zometa but after 5 years on Xgeva developed uveitis , onj and a compression fracture with progression throughout my spine. I have since read that if you start on Zometa or a bisophenate it’s easier to come off denonusab or Xgeva. Hang in there. Seems like you have a good oncologist. I’ve since had good results with Verzenio and Faslodex but my appendix burst a couple of weeks ago so I’m off Verzenio until they decide if they’ll remove the apoendix. Never rains but it pours Chris
thank you so much for your insight. I’m sorry about your appendix. Yes, it pours sometimes!
I get mine at Walmart “natures bounty”. Seems to do the trick!!
I puffed up like a balloon, very painful in my hands and feet, my oncologist put in my charts allergic to Zometa ! It was a horrible week!
According to my Oncologist, if you don't have circulating Calcium of at least 10 the drugs will suck Calcium from other sources such as your bones, enamel on your teeth etc! I simply take Viactiv 2 chews each day, and a sweet treat as well! And I take 5,000 units of D3 everyday. I always had at least a basic chemistry results drawn to check Calcium level before they could administer my Xgeva.
