Hi ladies. Hope everyone is safe and healthy during these trying times. Just wondering if anyone gets hip pain a few days after having a zometa infusion. I had my faslodex shots last Saturday and a zometa infusion and I have awful hip pain in my good hip. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks. Stay safe Marianne

Zometa
Marianne,
The second time I had a zometa infusion, 3-4 days later I had upper arm pain. It felt like my bone was broken and was terrible. It was at night and I took a strong pain pill that did not touch the pain. I would rate it a 9 out of 10 only because I guess there must be something worse. I have since read that claritan and tylenol 500 mg works for bone pain. My Dr. did not make me take zometa again. She said I might need it later.
Yes Claritin helps with the bone pain; how I simply don’t know. I’ve had Zometa infusions for more than 2 years. I will say the side effects do begin to subside.
Hi Morty87 (and others)...
My knowledge is admittedly fuzzy, but I take Claritin every day as, I think, and anti-inflammatory? At some point I added this to my anti-cancer regimen, I don't remember why, but I viewed it as well-founded at the time. So maybe Claritin helps with the bone/joint pain due to the same anti-inflammatory properties?
Me? I'd take it regardless and chalk it up to "might help/can't hurt!"...I do hope you find relief from the pain. BTW, I also take low dose aspirin everyday for the same reason...anti-inflammatory...but this might do double duty re: your pain, in a full dose?
Take care,
Lynn
I am starting Zometa soon. My oncologist told me to expect flu like symptoms which would include body aches and pains but I don’t know if he meant that much pain. Has it subsided for you or has pain meds helped it?
I took Claritin before the shot and I think that night. It helped a great deal. After the first few you may not need anything
I took Claritin before my infusion and also that night a epson salt bath. It helped a lot.
Hi I'm not on zometa but now on denusumab I get upper arm pain on and off it's better after 2 weeks, so has been a lot better after missing one.
Don't know if this will help, but the first time I had Faslodex I had pain in my left hip which is my bad side. (large tumour.) It was uncomfortable walking to my car and sore for 24 hrs. even with my pain meds. (Oxcodone)
I asked the nurse if she could try to inject a little more to the center of my buttocks away from the sore area. She did and I had no problem after that. Just a slight discomfort till I got to the car and turned the heated seat on. I have a 45 min drive to home.
Now for you having the discomfort on the good side it might help anyway. My nurse always did a very quick injection but you might ask the nurse o slow it down a bit and certainly warm it up before hand. I am sure there will be more suggestions for you.
Cheers, June S.
Oh sorry Marianne. I am mixing up the butt injections with the Zometa. Woke up early and still half asleep. Ha!
I never had a problem with the Zometa injection except finding a good vein.
Cheers, June S.
I have been on zometa for two years and do get leg and hip pain . I find a hot bath and warm compresses ease the pain . It only lasts for a few days. After 2 years I don't get that any longer. It does get better.
I had terrible bone pain all over for about a day and a half and then was good after my first injection of zometa. They say it gets better so we will see.
I didn’t have any noticeable side effects over 3.5 years! But since I was also on Ibrance and Letrozole, who knows what’s what! It’s interesting how different our experiences are. Sorry about your pain!
I had my first infusion of Zometa on Wednesday. The first night was very difficult. I had severe head and neck pain.
Is it generally true that second time dose, and so on, shouldn't be as severe?
Hi,
I'm sorry to hear that you experienced head and neck pain after your first infusion. I have been having zometa infusions since June 2018 and I do not normally have any issues. But I have had aches and pains in the past from them. Hopefully you will be fine next time. I would recommend drinking plenty of water before and after your infusion. On the morning of my infusions I also skip my first dose of Adcal D3 and vitamin D3+k2 spray. I was told to avoid taking any vitamin D supplements within four hours of my infusions, so that's what I do each time.

I called several days in advance to ask about premeds, or preparation, and no one mentioned vitamin D. I will remember that for next time. This is a rough ride, but I think I'm through the worst? Am I mistaken, and should I be anticipating another round of some sort of side effects?
Hi,
Hopefully you will not have any more side effects when you get your next zometa infusion. I can't say if you will feel the same after your next treatment. We are all so different. This is what the patient information leaflet for Adcal D3 mentions:
"If you are taking thyroxine, bisphosphonates, iron or fluoride medicines, tetracycline or quinolone antibiotics make sure your doctor knows this. When taking these medicines leave a period of about 4 hours before taking your Adcal-D3 Caplets. Do not take any of these listed medicines at the same time as your Adcal-D3 Caplets ".
As zometa is a bisphosphonate that's why I always skip my first dose of Adcal D3 on the morning of my infusions. So if you are taking any form of vitamin D you should be aware of the risks.
Sophie
I have no side effects at all from my Zometa infusions.
Neither have I, but I do have muscles that are easily strained.
I never had side effects from zometa but I do from The Faslodex injections.
