As far as I’ve read it’s all theories without scientific evidence coming fro studies. Obviously cancer user sugar to grow as all normal cells…

Hi, I'm in the UK and had lumpectomy in January. I was told to follow a low Glycaemic Index diet as cancer loves sugar. Hope this helps x

Hi, my hospital is Frimley Park and was operated on there and St Luke's, Guildford for radiotherapy. My consultant advised that a Low GI diet (book/download on amazon) and exercise works well at fighting cancer, which loves sugar. As I am ER+ I looked into supplements purported to be estrogen blockers. I take the following herbal supplements: chlorella, turmeric, vits D & K, C (Vit D was emphasised by the consultant as one everybody should take), ashwaghanda, reishi, biotin, Coenzyme Q10. I also take sage to help with hot flushes. I buy my supplements from British Supplements as they don't contain nasty chemicals or fillers etc. I don't take medication so wanted to go the natural route as much as I can. I joined Marnie Clarke's Toxic Thrivers FB group as she has studied the natural route for 20+ years and is a cancer survivor. She has so much info on her website. She is not a GP and recommends that anyone following this talks to GP first. Fortunately, mine is very supportive.

My trade off for deciding not to go Letrozole route, was I will have radiotherapy. Fortunately I do not need chemo. I spent days researching herbal supplements, so do your homework and find what works for you.

This is my personal choice, which some people will not have. You must talk to your GP or Consultant as everyone's cancer journey is different. Sorry if I rambled on a bit!

Good luck with your journey x

Theoretically, sugar is linked to inflammation that could could be a factor in tumors development and progression.

This could be seen on rising tumor markers, but I don’t think that it’s clear.

At this point I don’t follow any diet, although not overdoing anything.

All the best

Thank you. I recently saw a post on another forum that said her tumor markers rose when she was consuming more sugar. I had never heard of sugar consumption related to rising tumor markers.

Hi Mary, this is an interesting question that hasn't been fully answered by research. This page on the Dana Farber website gives the mainstream oncology point of view - basically saying that eliminating sugar/carbs isn't proven to help, but avoiding obesity is a good idea: dana-farber.org/for-patient...

I'm starting to explore the work of Dr. Nasha Winter, author of a book called "The Metabolic Approach," which focuses on using diet and other approaches to create an environment in your body that discourages cancer and supports health (including a keto or low sugar/carb diet). Still in scoping mode but looks intriguing - there are so many wacky alternative health ideas out there when it comes to cancer that it can be hard to figure out which are reasonable. I think it partly depends on your own intuition.

For the last 3 months I followed a no-sugar / very low carb diet just to test it out, and got good results on my latest scan with a 44% reduction in liver lesion size - though I can't prove the diet played a role in that, it was also thanks to Xeloda!

it is interesting to me - my tumor markers have had slight increase the last few months and I also had been consuming more sugar with the holidays and whatnot then I saw someone post on another forum about her tumor markers rising after she consumed a lot of sugar. I had never heard this before so it intrigued me. Not sure they’re related but gets me wondering just the same.
