I just stopped taking Affinitor. I have a rash all over and my shoulders and uppper arms are swelled like a football player. How long with this last since I stopped the meds 2 days ago?

I had a slight rush on my forearm and it took about twenty days after I stopped Afinitor to go away. . This treatment didn’t work and I had a few side effects.

That doesn't sound like so much fun. I hope it settles down reasonably quickly. I don't have any experience with this drug but it will probably be my next go-to if the current regimen I'm on turns out to not work. It unfortunately seems it has more side effects than some of the others like iBrance and Lynparza that I"ve been on.

Did you check with your doctor about your symptoms? I wasn’t quite clear from your post if your doctor saw the rash. I had a really bad rash reaction when I started Piqray. I called my doctor and she had me come in on the day I called. Turned out to be a severe reaction that was called serum sickness. I had to be put on Methylprednisolone for an entire week. The rash eventually faded into what looked like bruises all over my body. It’s always a good idea to keep your doctor in the know.

I, too, have a very itchy rash on my arms, legs and back from Afinitor. My doctor lowered the dosage from 10mg to 7.5mg. I just started the new dose yesterday. Hope it works.

Best wishes to all.

Hi there. Not to bring fear into the equation, but that sounds serious. I found this information from:

mayoclinic.org/drugs-supple...

Precautions

This medicine may cause a serious allergic reaction called anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention. Tell your doctor right away if you have a rash, itching, hoarseness, trouble breathing, trouble swallowing, or any swelling of your hands, face, or mouth after using this medicine.

Everolimus may cause a serious type of allergic reaction called angioedema. This may occur more often when it is used with certain heart and blood pressure medicines called ACE inhibitors (eg, captopril [Capoten®], enalapril [Vasotec®], fosinopril [Monopril®], quinapril [Accupril®], ramipril [Altace®]). Check with your doctor right away if you have a rash, itching, a large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals, trouble breathing, or chest tightness while you are using this medicine.

If I were you, I would get my oncologist. involved if you haven't already. Just to make sure this is not an allergic reaction or something serious. I hope all goes well with you!
