What is after Taxol?

Iwasborntodothis profile image

Trying to get ahead of some decisions as it seems that I am a one year treatment gal...Ibrance - 1 year, Xeloda - 1 year, now Taxol seems to be giving up on me after a year too. Doc rattled off things like Gemzar and said that there were a lot of treatments that used to be only for triple negative that are now approved for my boring non-triple negative type (sorry not trying to be flip about it).

I have bone, liver, and lung mets but they have generally resolved and I was deemed to be "stable" but that stupid CA15 (which is a strong indicator for me) has started to creep back up.

I need to get my husbands notes out and see the other things he rattled off....he also seemed intrigued by my offer to do another 6 week round of Taxol instead on my 3 on 1 off just to kick this sucker in the rear.

So, that's where we are at here in Phoenix. It's so stupid because I feel good.

Hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

Before switching to a new treatment be sure to have scans. Markers aren’t so accurate, only PET, TC and MRI are clear indicators.

I had Abraxane as my second line and it knocked the rapid progression on the head so I’m a fan of taxane. I ultimately had 9 rounds, two weeks on one week off, although various doctors thought that was too much and kept reducing the expected total but my oncologist who was new at the time insisted on the full nine rounds. That was in 2016 and I’m still stable 5.5 years later. I had Afinitor and Exemestane for ten months and since then only Exemestane.

Would six weeks make a difference? It might and it’s not a long time to hold back from a treatment change. You literally won’t know unless you try it. It doesn’t seem like your oncologist hates the idea so why not try it if you want to.

Feeling good is a big indicator of how well you’re handling treatment. It’s just another reason to try your Taxol plan.

All the best

Kerry

I’m glad you’re feeling better. I think after taxol went on abraxane, Carboplatin, taxotere and keytruda. Others followed. Hope that helps.

Thanks so much!

Update:

MY CA15 is up to 200 so here is the plan:

I am doing a six-week round of Taxol followed by a scan and then we will decide if we move to other drugs. I have been 3 weeks on 1 week off so this is kind of a last ditch effort to see if Taxol will kick my numbers back down because my last scans were so good in October.

We have quite a list of possible treatments and I am grateful because I know that even 2 years ago this wasn't the case. So, my hubby and I have six weeks to research everything that was thrown out there. We are going to do a spreadsheet with side effects and rank the choices. I don't want to be disabled by treatment as I feel pretty good now and still go to work and exercise. I am in the process of selling my share of my business so this six weeks gets me the time to finalize this and RETIRE!!!!!! prior to treatment change.

So, thank you all again for your input and I will share our research and spreadsheet when we are done. Have an awesome day!

I was wondering if you were happy with the taxol. I would have been happy to have to have to take it months ago (last year) to bring my tumor markers down, as I am at 2100 now and xeloda, venorbin and enhertu did not work. On eribulin and just finished 1st cycle. I have a lot of bone pain, mainly in my ribs and my oil no longer work and I do not want to continue to take paracetamol and ibuprofen. I am going to the pharmacy to get claritin though and give that a try. Also, what type of BC were you dx'd? I do find it odd that now many drugs that were for one type, are now given for many different types. I feel that a lot of time has been lost and instead of doing taxol, I have been on the plank so to speak, "trying" others, while my condition gets worse.

I wish I could have stayed with Taxol despite the side effects I even lobbied (successfully) for another round before switching meds. I am hormone receptor positive HER2/neu negative with a ATM? gene mutation and not BRACA. (I had to look that up because I havent memorized it). I think a lot of drug now have cross-overs for types. My Trodelvy was originally only triple negative but was approved for my type recently. They did have me try carboplatin first which was a disaster. Hope that helps.

Gotcha. I had read many on Trodelvy are content. Indeed it is interesting to see that the cross of meds for many types. I had to wait for enhertu to be available for her2low and it still did not work. Thanks for your time and reply.
