I have been prescribed Avastin--an IV injection--for inflammation in the brain. I have a brain lesion (on MRI) and they can't determine if it is more tumor or necrosis. It is at the site of an original tumor which was removed via craniotomy in 2018 with follow-up SRS to the tumor bed. Current lesion is causing right foot to "drop" by pressing on the motor ridge in the brain. Very problematic since I cannot walk well and cannot drive. I am hoping that they can save my foot! They think the Avastin treatment will reduce the brain swelling. (BTW Avastin does not work on breast cancer cells and is not the point of the treatment.) Anyone with a similar experience? Thanks so much! Kay

Avastin is a drug that I've heard of but I can't remember the context--I'm a long timer with MBC and have been to alot of conferences and met alot of other women with MBC and I think I've known woman who have been on it but the details are among the many things I don't remember! I do think that it bodes well that it has taken 4 years for this to get to this point! I had SR for two small mets on the surface of the brain (right cerebellum) that was causing issues similar to neuropathy in my right hand and foot. I have neuropathy so it's been difficult to know if that got much better, The radiologist recommended that I have brain MRIs every 3 months for two years. Not at 2 years yet, but so far all as been good, but the whole idea of brain mets is pretty scary! I hope the swelling you have will get resolved and that your foot will get back under your control! Let us know! (I wish I could tell you more about Avastin!)
Thanks for you reply! No one else has responded--so I am guessing none have experience with this drug. I am getting an injection tomorrow--a great thing to do on Black Friday!! Ha! I am 4.5 years since dx--was dx de novo with a brain tumor! They found the brain met first due to the neuropathy and loss of motor control in right foot--had a tremor in foot also. On original MRI they knew tumor was a met and after CT of body they found breast tumor. Had craniotomy for brain tumor, SRS to tumor bed after, and then lumpectomy 2 years later. And of course lots of drugs. And now this--ugh. Best to you!
