maybe an optometrist that’s seen people before with mbc might just know a solution? If you wear glasses then perhaps ask your optometrist to ask around?
My opthalmologist, a big shot at an eye institute, said it was dry eye. It was not. She also said I had a blocked tear duct but it would be painful to clear. That was not it, either. I went off Ibrance and it stopped. Now I have it again. A pharmacist with the specialty pharmacy that provides Verzenio said she uses an over the counter allergy med that is eye drops and dries her eyes. I haven't tried it. The tearing seems to come and go. (After looking for the medication in pharmacies and not finding it, I have forgotten the name. I could probably find a note on it somewhere.)
I have been on ribociclib for about a year. I too have watery eyes. The wateriness was worse a few months ago, but still comes and goes. I simply dry my eyes with a tissue when they are at their worst. I find other side effects more of a problem...
I hope your allergy meds works for you. It is good that you checked on its reaction with your cancer meds.
I was switched from Ibrance to Kisqali and I spoke with my oncologist because my eyes water quite often…..she said it’s actually dry eyes that I am experiencing.
When my eyes run and it really bothers me I use Tear-Gel by Bausch & Lomb.,….soothes my eyes and lasts way longer than any of the drops.
I’m only a few moths away from 5 years on Kisqali & Letrozole and continue to experience dry eyes.
I’m on Letrozole and Verzenio. The same thing happens to me and my doctor recommended Clear Eyes…it didn’t work. If you find something, please let me know
I have been on Ibrance and Letrozole for 5 1/2 years now and have had watery eyes for the past three years or so. I’ve tried drops, ointments, plugs, etc. Eye doctor says it’s caused by dry eyes. It seems to be worse when I’m on Ibrance and let’s up a little on my break. It’s very annoying especially when I’m driving but as far as side effects go It could be something worse. I’m also having outbreaks of hives and do not know if it has anything to do with taking Ibrance and letrozole. I afraid of being told I have to move in to another line of treatment. Having MBC is a journey. Best of luck on yours.
While I am not yet on a CDK4/6 inhibitor, just Faslodex for yrs now with some radiation thrown in, but I had Dry eyes before even being Metastatic, using moisturizing drops has been routine, but recently my eyes began to feel as though something was constantly scratching my corneas, not relieved but momentarily w/moisture drops. I had a Corneal scan done by an Ophthalmologist with a local Duke Eye Ctr and it was determined that my natural oil glands were plugged and not getting enough oil which mixes with other fluids on our corneas. Every night I wear an eye mask that can be heated in the microwave until it cools down then do a rolling finger motion to literally roll the oil in the glands up to my eyes(its primarily the lower lid that's the issue). Right now this is working plus I use Systane Complete drops at least 4x/day which contains mineral oil.
I have had some tearing eyes, but it has ceased. Been on Letrozole and Ibrance for 5 years with excellent results. I take a daily Claritin for allergies but was also told that it helps with bone pain.
I've had this problem (and I am on Ibrance 125) since I started hormonal treatment in late Sept 2020. Sometimes it is worse than others. Fairly active at the moment. I chalk it up to my treatment. I am even considering reducing my Ibrance, despite having minimal side effects (the tearing included). I mean, when I am on video calls (including job interviews)... sometimes it looks like I am crying!
I mentioned this to my nurse practitioner who made it sound like she had never heard of this as a med side effect. But many folks with MBC on this site and others report this. My oncologist (who I trust, as opposed to my NP... who I don't)... will discuss this further with me next month. I only brought it to her attention in mid-October, as I asked about therapeutically optimal Ibrance levels (and whether there is any science saying I should stay at 125 if I can tolerate it, RE: hitting basic lab marks and so forth, despite other side effects).
I've heard other people say this is a dry eye issue. I do use eye drops, but more for occasional redness than for this problem. I haven't found eye drops to reduce my tearing... or my runny nose for that matter!
Hope you are doing well. As for crying eyes…it seems to happen to me every now and then. I’ve tried over the counter drops but they didn’t work for me. I now have a prescription eye drop which I only use when my eyes act up. It is called “prednisone acetate ophthalmic suspension USP”
hello! I have this too…but I use Claritin on a daily basis and it seems to work. Claritin is documented yo help with any bone pain associated with MBC… it works as an antihistamine…cancer cells shed and cause a reaction in the body which the Claritin helps to prevent. Hope this helps you as well..😀
My oncologist agreed that I should try Claritin for joint pain from anastrozole. I took the "non-drowsy" 24-hour extended release because that is all I could find. I took it in the morning and was a zombie all day, felt terrible. During the night, I had my first bout of bone pain -- much worse than joint pain -- but the next day I felt great, no pain and energy. Do you find you have to stay on Claritin for a while to have the positive effects on pain? I guess it doesn't knock you out.
Not sure ..would have to ask Doctor If you find out let me know
