My Beautiful Christmas Cacti

On a truly gloomy day together with not feeling so bright it pleases me to share this photo of one of my Christmas Cacti.

I hope you are all feeling ok today.

So Beautiful! My plants are getting ready to bloom in the next few weeks. 🌺🌺🌺

How come my Christmas cactus looks nothing like that? Mine still looks gloomy. Thanks for showing me what it’s supposed to look like Cheryl.

Maybe it’s in the wrong place Clare. It happens. They don’t like to much water either.

Ahh that might be the problem. Too much water. It is on my kitchen windowsill - can they get too much sun as well?

OMG I have to have one! My mother always had the bright pink variety so thank you for sharing.

With all the talk in the media this morning of university students travelling home for Christmas I am trying to figure out how we can be with our three daughters. With me being extremely vulnerable, international flights and boarder closures involved it’s not looking good. I’m working on a plan but it’s complicated with the fast moving Covid situation. I’m trying to keep things in perspective and not get stressed. Of course I am not the only one in this position but with a life limiting illness I want to enjoy every Christmas with my daughters. The rest of my family are out of reach on the other side of the world. So I am feeling gloomy today.

Thank you for sending the flowers and brightening up my morning! I’m off for a walk to the little local garden centre I’ve found. 😊💕

Dear Stardust

My heart goes out to you. I hear your pain. between the words. This may sound corny or disrespectful but try smiling and thinking of those three beautiful souls who are your loving daughters. I think that you will make it happen the way that is good for you.

Where's that smile?

Frances, thanks for your words of encouragement. I need them. I'm working on a plan but I'm up against airline cancellations, border closures, curfews and Covid! I like a challenge and I have my fighting face on today ;)

I have a bright pink one to but it flowers earlier.

I hope your daughters make it home for Christmas. There seemed more positive news today about Students being tested so they can return home. Fingers crossed.

I love old fashioned garden centres. We have a small one nearby. I love supporting them as a small local business

Best wishes

I should have read the article before I went to the garden centre. It seems I have a Thanksgiving cactus instead of a Christmas one. It is still beautiful and I feel better informed. Win win!

in reply tostardust1965

I hope all the stars align for you all to meet up this Christmas. If it doesn’t happen you can plan for your next gathering and who knows with this vaccine news things could change!!

Keep your chin up

Stunning...and funny story as mine are blooming, too. They may actually be Thanksgiving cactus. I am not kidding. See this article on the leaves that say whether it is Christmas, Thanksgiving or Easter cactus. worldofsucculents.com/thank...

Whatever one it is...enjoy!

in reply toAvidBooklover

Thanks that’s interesting as one of mine does flower earlier.I will take a look.

Wow! You really have a green thumb. My Thanksgiving cactus bloomed earlier (love the delicate white-pink colour), and I was pleased with it, but yours is really spectacular!

Thank you. They are a pleasing plant to have. X

I am now the proud owner of my first Christmas cactus ! There were 3 colours (red , pink and white) and I chose the white x 🤍

in reply toTeddielottie

Well done. Get one of each. They are easy to take cuttings from as well. I’m really pleased.
