UTIs monthly

I’m taking Ibrance and anastrozole anyone having UTIs. I get them once a month. I’m exhausted from this. My gp is going to put me on an antibiotic low dose daily, hopefully that helps. I drink a lot of water and juice but still get them. I’m 71 years old and never had this experience before. To be honest it’s a little old just like me. I’m going in for scans on Monday hopefully, had to cancel my mammogram Friday and reschedule for Wednesday. This started Monday and it’s still going on. Hugs to you all!

Sharon, I was the queen of UTIs. I finally changed urologist and he put me on a medication called Methamine I have to take it with vitamin C two times a day. But since I started that I have not had another UTI. Another urologist had put me on Trimethoprim But my new urologist was not crazy for me to be on that long term. It is such a relief not to be getting these infections all the time. I hope you get some answers because I know what you’re going through

Ladies! The epithelial linings get reduced to a few cells while on the estrogen blocking drugs. That is why we now get UTIs. Mine were not truly infections, they could not culture anything--but definitely irritations. My onc prescribed 0.01% estradiol vaginal cream. Studies show that at first a little crosses to the body, but after the tissues build up again, no more crosses over. Just apply it externally. Ask your MD's for it. No more problems! And best to you all!! Kay

thank you. but, externally? how does this help?

It is the thinning of the vaginal tissues that allow bacteria and other substances to enter the urethra, therefore causing the UTI. My first oncology nurse had anatomical diagrams that show this. You can probably find info on-line. The vaginal tissues surround the urethra opening, so not all is internal--if that is what you mean. The cream can be inserted into the vagina--or applied externally in that area. The cream works wonders.

The cream seems like a much better solution than taking oral antibiotics (or other drugs) full time!! We are drugged enough! I am so glad my onc knew about the studies. Not many drs. seem to know this info. Hope it works for you!

I had the same issues. Bladder infections that put me in hospital every 3-4 months for 5 days each time . Now I have been on a low antibiotic (Teva-Cephalexin 250 mg for almost two years and I have had no infections since.

I get utis too. My primary care put me on a maintenance dose of an antibiotic I take nightly. Such a treat isn't it?

I’ve decided this is not living! I had such a great attitude at the beginning but now I dread everyday.

I know it can get to be a pain!! I am not sure if I have had them.....but I do know that some days I wake up and think gotta eat breakfast and take my pills. The alternative is not where I want to go yet. I am 70 and have my husband, kids and grand kids that I truly enjoy.

As well as any medications, here are some other tips.. Your bladder curves, which leaves a place for a little pool of urine and bacteria to gather. Make sure you empty your bladder completely every time. Either, after peeing stand up and sit down again to pee the last drops, or rock side to side front and back to empty completely.. good exercise for thighs too!
