I’m on verzenio and letrizole. Recently I began having ankle pain, so bad that the pain meds I’m taking will only lessen the pain when I walk but doesn’t completely take the pain away. Anyone else experiencing ankle pain/foot pain?

Ankle Pain
Dear CatLady: Any pain that falls into the 3 P’s (painful, persistent & progressive) needs to be evaluated by your oncologist. Please have it checked out.
Praying for you!

Where is it in your foot/ankle? I had bad joint/bone pain on Letrozole -- in my hips, but other people get it in other joints. So bad I went off it. Now, on Verzenio and Arimidex, I have a scary pain in my calf. It is not incapacitating, but little pains in many spots, knee, foot, and calf. And now my hand. Not sure what that is, but I am attributing it to Verzenio. Feels like muscle cramps. Took aspirin, no effect. Let us know what you find out.
I looked up posterior tibial tendinitis and my pain is in that exact location, back of the heel. I am already on oxycodone for pain as I have cancer in all bones. The pain meds lessen the pain in my feet but do not take the pain away entirely. On verzenio, I have mostly stomach issues but who knows for sure which med is causing which pain. I hope you find relief for your pain.
While on Letrozole I had a pain in my foot also--the ortho PA called it posterior tibial tendonitis. (If you look that up you can find the location!) I had been out in gardens a lot--I volunteered at a public garden plus my own! Walking on uneven ground was difficult. The ortho PA thought the letrozole was causing it--and my onc at that time thought that was possible too. They gave me one of those huge walking boots--which was so cumbersome I hardly wore it. I did rest the foot a lot and kept it in the same position as if I had the boot on. It healed. They also gave me a smaller ankle brace to support the foot. I did stop the letrozole around that time due to the severe mental side effects. I could handle the tendonitis--but not the mental anguish those AI's can cause! Best to you!
I looked it up and that is exactly where my pain is located. I am considering getting an ankle brace or some type of brace to keep it stabilized. I have an appointment tomorrow to get results of scans but my feet were not scanned. However, I will discuss this pain with my oncologist. Thanks for the reply.
My pain was at that little bone protuberance that is right above the arch on the inside of the foot. I suppose the tendon itself stretches a long way--therefore "tendonitis" can be anywhere along the tendon. I hurt it when gardening. The first time it got better--the second time was worse and I needed to stay off it for awhile. They did an x-ray--I can't remember if that was diagnostic or not. I went to an ortho clinic, not my oncologist. I had no mets to any bones at that time. Letrozole and anastrozole inflame the synovial membranes around the joints AND inflame the membranes around tendons--a rheumatologist told me. That is why so many get trigger fingers. The inflammation happens in 50% of those taking the drugs. I had severe joint pains in 8 joints while on anastrozole--it was pretty bad! Then was on fulvestrant--much better. But I kept having fatigue--and my onc talked me into trying letrozole. Those AI's are the worst drugs. I think I got permanent cognitive disability from them. That can happen in some older women--my new oncologist quoted research done at LA Medical Center. What a journey! Best to you! Kay
