I saw my Palliative Care doctor yesterday and she was very concerned about my 8 lb weight loss in one month. She has put me on medical marijuania to help boost my appetite. I can't stand looking at food let alone eating it. It is also to help my extreme pain from cancer in my spine. This is in addition to the Hydrmorpone opiate that Im taking every 4 hours.
Has anyone experienced medical marijuania and if so, how did it help?

I've been using it regularly for pain management, sleep, and appetite. It took me a while to find the right one. I didn't like the feeling of being super "high" and there are different strains that make you feel different ways. So if you don't like the way it feels don't give up. My appetite has been very poor lately and I do find that if I take an edible I get the "munchies" an hour or so after it kicks in. Good luck. I really hope it helps.
hi. agree with everything Shelly1009 mentioned. I too take it for pain daily and random nausea. I am not using it to gain weight at present but I have in the past. and I am also on opiates. (oxycodone and long acting morphine) as I have pretty severe pain. the marijuana definitely helps.
but like already mentioned, it can take some trial and error to find the 'strain' that best suits you. I will mention that there are 2 main strains.....sativa and indica. sativa is more energizing and the indica is more relaxing. my personal experience is that the indica helps me better with pain and nausea. I do believe it is also preferred for weight gain. easy enough to research on google and get some more info. I would search 'what are the two main strains of marijuana' and see what pops up.
The compounding pharmacy I have gone to for a long time carries CBD oil and cream. I've used the oral oil to help me sleep. I usually don't remember to use it until just before I go to bed, but I do fall asleep quicker than without it and wake only once during the night, which is alot better than without it. I have only fairly mild pain in bones and am on a relatively mild pain med and don't notice a difference in pain with the cbd oil, but that probably means little since the pain I do experience at times is so mild. (about a 2 on the 0-10 pain scale)
I have used marijuana tinctures and oils and they have helped tremendously. It takes a little bit of testing on your part to see what works. I recommend befriending your local Bud Tender as they are a wealth of knowledge. I do know you need a little THC to get some effect but you can find ratios that won’t make you feel high. Good luck!
There is a synthetic marijuana drug you can be prescribed called Marinol. Google it. I take it twice a day as I’m on Piqray for oral chemo and it kills your appetite and caused me significant weight loss. I take it twice a day and it does wonders for restoring appetite. Google it as the benefits in drug form far outweigh regular “pot” (lol)
I would Google Rick Simpson and read his story. I agree with Carole that you’re probably looking for an indica. It doesn’t help me much with the pain but I’m sleeping a lot better. It’s legal here so we can get RSO at our local shop Chris
I have a medical marijuana card and can buy higher strength and better quality products. I take Incredibles gummies, 50 mg THC, no CBD each. It helps me sleep and I get munchies and eat at night. I went to see marijuana doctor before I started taking them.
I had read that it is pretty expensive, medical Marijuania, I live in NYC and have dual coverage of both Medicare and Medicaid and they will not pay for it so it would be totally out of pocket.
