Mouth Sores

I have been on Ibrance (125 mg) and Letrozole since November 2021 and have just started experiencing mouth/tongue sores. Can anyone recommend a mouthwash or treatment to deal with this issue? Thanks so much for your help!

The pharmacist can mix you up a concoction my Oncologist told me about called "Magic Mouthwash." In 2-days all the mouth sores were gone! Apparently it is a well known mixture you can get over the counter from any pharmacist! It works!

I use an aloe Vera mouthwash and toothpaste and a good lip balm. Mine seems to happen in the latter part of my cycle but go off in a few days. I try to be careful what I eat so as not to aggravate. This week I had a blood blister on my tongue, quite black but it had gone a couple of days later. Take care. X

I’ve had the same reaction to Kisqali but not as much luck with the Magic Mouthwash. But I’ve included a copy of the potion that I got from my oncologist 🙂

It cleared in the first few days and I kept taking it to be sure but it came back.

My tongue is more discoloured than it is sore. If I didn’t look at it, I wouldn’t notice it was there.

It’s now two weeks later and it’s clearing again. I’ve continued with the mouthwash but I’ve also used biotene…and brushing my tongue when I brush my teeth and eating probiotic yogurt.

I’m not sure what’s working and what’s not, or if it’s just been a matter of time 🤷‍♀️ but I’m happy that it’s clearing.

I wish you all the best with yours. ♥️

Thank you so much for the magic recipe. I will give it a try!

I should have mentioned that it was written as a prescription for the pharmacy, not something I mixed in my kitchen 😁

I was on Ibrance and letrozole for over three years . While I never had ulcers in the mouth sometimes there was irritation and my dentist gave me chorlhexine gluconate rinse. It helps but I heard biogenesis does too. I hope all is well with you . 🙏✝️ Keep fighting and take care.

Definitely tell your oncologist. They gave me two things and they were gone within 24 hrs. I am on 100 Ibrance now. Much better. Rarely feel a mouth sore...always at the end of a cycle, and they do not manifest like before!

Thank you so much; I see the oncologist on Monday and will tell her!

Here is what I had prescribed 1) Lidocaine 2% Vicous Soln and 2) Dexamethasone Elixir USP .5 Hope that helps when speaking with your doctor.

I found that taking zinc supplements really reduced the number of mouth sores I was getting.

Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash. I have used these since Dec 2020 and they are amazing , no sores at all. My daughter is a dietician and worked with cancer patients in hospital she recommended them. I get them off Amazon. Debra xxx😍

Thank you so much. I have been using the Biotene mouthwash all week and it is great! I have ordered the Biotene toothpaste and my oncologist gave me a prescription for the Magic Mouthwash to be used when the mouth sores return. I so appreciate all the helpful hints from you and the others in this special group!

Glad you are getting some relief from Biotene, for me it was a lifesaver. Month one I started to get tingling and the start of mouth ulcers, sore tongue but as soon as I used it they magically all went within a day and never returned to date. It’s great as you say that we can help each other, this site and the people on it are so helpful.Debra xxx😍

I am sorry you are experiencing this side effect. Someone else posted on this issue a month or so ago abs she said that Gengigell had worked.

Hi Peabody,

i had canker sores within days after starting Piqray.

Someone here recommend Squigle toothpaste which i got from Amazon. After about 2 days of use, my tongue wasn’t as white and the pink color started to come back.

I also got rid of my cankor sores with the following prescription from a dermatologist at MSK who is an expert on side effects to the skin from cancer treatments.

clotrimazole 10 mg oral lozenge (3x day)

dexamethasone 0.5 mg/5 mL oral liquid (swish and spit 3x day).

Good luck!
