Lovely holiday in Tenerife - back to cancer life!

Hi

I had a lovely 5 night break in Tenerife with my sister & the weather was fabulous ☀️☀️☀️☀️ Completing all the Covid paperwork was well worth it! I also got some good travel insurance, reasonably priced, covering my cancer from a company called Insure With - I’m based in the UK.

However, I didn’t feel that well & hardly ate & drank - so unlike me! 🤣

I did get to swim in that pool though 👍 🏊‍♂️🏝

I’m not sure whether it was an infected tooth, holiday bug, anxiety or a combination of all 3 that made me feel unwell… I’m now on antibiotics for the large upper back tooth that has since fallen out & feeling much better.

It was hard returning to cancer life & hospital letters & appointments etc. My oncologist & I have decided to try gem carbo🤞

I had cycle 1, day 1 of gem carbo yesterday. All went smoothly, however the most challenging thing was driving to & from the hospital in gale force winds!! It was so scary at times, dodging falling branches etc!

I also didn’t bother with the cold cap this time but the chemo nurses assured me that I should only suffer a little hair thinning on Gem Carbo & as my hair is so thick I’ve decided to risk it ….

It’s been a difficult time for me as my previous 3 IV treatments, taxol, Epirubicin & Eribulin had mixed results & just didn’t attack my pesky liver mets!

Part of me even wanted a short treatment break but deep down I knew that wouldn’t be wise!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend & stay safe!

Love Jo xx 🥰

Good morning Jo

I for one am envious of your winter sun holiday and that you got to swim in that lovely pool. I am sure it’s done you the world of good even though you weren’t feeling one hundred per cent.

I know that feeling of returning to being a cancer patient once again. It so good to have a break from it even for just a short time.

I can’t believe you were out driving in the storm yesterday! It was frightening enough looking out from the comfort of my house! Thank goodness you made it home safely.

I really hope you have success with this new treatment and that it will sort out your liver mets. 🤞🤞🤞

Take care, Vicki

Hi Vicki

Thanks for your kind wishes.

I’m feeling ok so far but not much planned for the weekend. Currently waiting for Sainsburys grocery home delivery!

A tree fell on one of the chemo nurses car whilst she was parked at the hospital yesterday.

Best wishes to you!

A close call for that poor nurse!I’m having a slow weekend too. Sometimes it’s just what we need to compliment all those drugs we take! 😉

Take care.

Hi JoSo pleased you had a great break and Sunshine and warmth omg what is that lol

Really glad you are back on the case re treatment, sooner the better and it must have been really scary driving there and back.

I am in the North of England , coastal and we were ok only a bit of snow really not that windy, but my daughter works and lives near Milton Keynes and said it was wild there.

Good luck with your treatments , your photo in the pool is a great reminder that Summer will come to the UK at some point.

I’ve booked to go to Italian Lakes early summer so looking forward to that.

Have a lovely weekend

So happy to hear you were able to get away. It’s very difficult to come back to “real life”, but hopefully you can plan something enjoyable again very soon! Take care.

Sounds a great break. Insure with rejected me despite being stable. I'm still on Ibrance and letrozole. Maybe my age came into it too! Good luck with your continued treatment. xx

Really good to hear that your ok after the tooth and trip sounds like fun! You are really a trooper and inspiration.

You look great in this photo! I've heard Tenerife is lovely. You photos confirm this.

I am sorry you are facing these challenges. I am sending support to you from the US.

I respect your decision to forego cold caps this time around. I used them in 2014. They worked but the intense cold is "wicked" as we say here in the Boston area. It is one thing if the treatments are several weeks apart and for a finite period. But they are a demanding routine and not one I could easily do twice. I have my fingers crossed that it will "only" thin as you have been told.

Now that you are back in the UK, I hope the spring weather arrives soon. No more of those of those incredibly high winds I read about last week!

Please know that we are here for you,
