I've just got back from a week in fuerteventura, we stayed at the same hotel as we did a year ago which had a lovely spa and well equipped gym. Last year it was exactly one year after I'd finished treatment for stage 2 breast cancer. When I arrived I looked at the gym but just didn't have the energy to use it.
This year despite the stage 4 diagnosis I was able to use the gym for an hour everyday, I also swam and accidentally did an 8 mile walk. Last December I was in so much pain I struggled to get dressed. It made me realise how far I've come in the last 12 months.
But I did want to ask a question of my American sisters. On the plane I read an interesting article on gut microbes. It said that in the States oncologists now analysed these microbes before starting chemo as the indicated how successful the chemo would be. I've never heard of this before, though I am very interested in the role of the gut microflora on physical and mental health. Has anyone had these tests and do you know which microbes are being looked for? I'd be interested in any information you may have, thanks
