I started eribulin two weeks ago.

Yesterday, I began with horrible mouth pain and dark redness and difficult to move tongue. Any ideas ladies? Doc gave me a script for miracle mouthwash but that did nothing. I am using the salt and baking soda which helps the most. But, was anyone given anything to heal the esophagus and mouth as I cannot chew anything. I also ordered the toothpaste and mouth wash one of our other sisters mentioned. I am hoping for something to actually heal the esophagus. Any help here ladies

That is horrible! What is the diagnosis? Fungal infection? Esophagitis?

I have been given an acid reducer: Lansoprazole 1 capsule every morning 30 minutes before breakfast. I know I get it also by IV, with Eribulin. I use a mouthwash with Itraconazole, it's is an antifungal medication. Also baking soda in Chamomile tea has been helpful.

With these remedies my mouth has healed completely on the last cycle of eribulin.

I had esophagitis after total spine radiation Swallowing was painful, and I had to keep spitting out mucus. I was prescribed 3 mouthwashes to take before a meal to numb the area and chew food. One was sucralfate, which I swallowed and which put a chalky consistency to the esophagus area. When I was discharged I was prescribed a pill form of this. One was some kind of prescription mouthwash that I gargled and spit out - sorry can't remember the name. It numbed the back of the throat The other was something to prevent thrush. After about 3 months I started tasting more chalk than breakfast, so I stopped using them. Of course these aren't cures, but the speech therapist who saw me in the hospital said that I had to keep swallowing, otherwise I would lose the muscles that let you swallow, so these mouthwashes helped me do it.

It got a lot worse before better. I was admitted to hospital for a week as I had so much mucisitis that I could not open my mouth or move my tongue at all and my ANC dropped to zero and white count to .03. As the neutrophils came up the ulcers began to go away, thank GOD. It was the worst ever pain. Still have some ulcers but no big deal. I am extemely beat up and weak. A targeted biopsy consult is scheduled for tomorrow morning online and I see onco on Tuesday to see if and what she may have up her sleeve but I know I can't go on like this much longer.
