"Oh, the weather outside is frightful / But the fire is so delightful / Since we've no place to go / Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow"

Tonight, since it is currently snowing, the temperature will only drop to - 26 C, but the forecast for Wednesday night is -37 C. I hope you too are having a "Merry Christmas"!

Thanks for your response, Sandra! It seems you're experiencing our Wednesday weather today. David and I did go for a brief (25 minutes) walk tonight as we both need to be more active, but I wonder whether we'll be as keen to go on Wednesday. The fingers on my lymphedema arm turned bright red despite my wearing gloves inside of mitts. Imagine being a chilled, homeless person looking for shelter in such weather!

Stay warm, my friend,

Cindy

Good grief that’s cold! (I confess I had to ask Alexa to confirm my conversion rate to Fahrenheit temp first.)

I just can’t imagine. Once in a blue moon here in eastern Massachusetts we get wind chill temps below zero, but not the real deal like you have!

I suppose I should keep this in mind during our next cold front.

Fortunately it looks quite cozy by your fireplace. Merry Christmas

Thanks for your response! We're experiencing our bitterest January temperatures a little early here in the prairies, but even British Columbia has snow this year. Fortunately, Canadians pride themselves on being TOUGH (but we still complain).

Also, those of us who can afford to do so live in super-insulated homes. There were four original fireplaces when my husband and I bought this 1912 home, and we added two more, including the one you see above.

May your New Year be warm, and also be merry!

Cheers,

Cindy

Thanks for the contrasting image of a Christmas season visit to the Tower of London in the rain. Stay dry! Happy New Year to you too!

Dear Cindy -The picture of your outside is beautiful and so is the inside. It is inviting and warm looking. I love your windows -( very much like Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie windows.). I hope your Christmas mirrored the feeling that your pictures conjured up.Frances

Lovely to hear from you, Frances! Maybe we'll still get the chance to visit each other when Covid is finally brought to heel. I may have unintentionally tried to copy F. L. Wright's windows when I designed the addition to our old house. David and I enjoyed brunch in front of the fireplace, and visited friends for Christmas dinner and games. I hope you also had a fun day with family and/or friends!

Warmest wishes for 2022!

Cindy

Yes, Cindy, let's hope we can get together, one of these days. My Christmas was busy, very busy. I had fourteen of family for dinner and I did all the cooking for a lengthly meal. Others did kitchen duty. I love to cook and It was really good to get together. I am still recuperating.

Hazelgreen profile image

Wow! Lots of cooking and baking to be sure! I'm glad you enjoyed it, even if it means several days of recuperating. Does your family know that you have MBC?

Hi, Cindy! I'm not a fan of snow but it is beautiful to look at from inside a nice, cozy room. Stay warm and enjoy your lovely Christmas tree. A dusting of snow here in SE Tennessee is cause for a major milk/bread run on the groceries, schools close and then everyone hits the roads to prove we don't know how to drive on snow. FYI, it was 74F here yesterday. Manon

Hazelgreen profile image
Hazelgreen in reply toTNVol

Hi Manon,

Thank you for your kind words! I'm not much of an outdoor snow connoiseur either, but it seems all Canadians like to have a "white Christmas".

I have heard that small amounts of snow can cause panic south of the border. Actually, driving is probably more hazardous here as well when snow first arrives. I wouldn't have guessed that SE Tennessee would be vulnerable, especially after 74F temperatures! Do you think climate change is to blame?

Happy New Year to you and yours,

Cindy

Hi Cindy

Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos.

It’s very wet & mild here in the UK. Apparently we are facing the warmest new year on record.

Happy new year!

Jo xx

Hazelgreen in reply toSunnydrinking

Hi Jo,

This year has already been one of extremes, and this coming year promises more of the same. Climate change seems to be a real issue! Since Saskatchewan, in the 36 years I've lived here, can experience both -40 C in winter, and +40 C in summer, many Canadians would envy your wet, mild, and warm weather. I hope the wetness doesn't mean the U.K. is vulnerable to the floods in other parts pf Europe!

Thanks for your reply, and Happy New Year to you and yours too!

Hugs, Cindy

Merry Christmas Hazelgreen!

Your pics are beautiful, but to this California girl, the 41 degrees (F) that we will have overnight, are TOO COLD for me! It is hard to believe that I have Irish roots, because my blood is THIN! I would NEVER survive those Canadian winters!

Best for the New Year!

Colleen

Hi Colleen,

Thanks for your response!

Let's see, +41 F is roughly +5C, sounds like balmy weather to me, but it's all a matter of what you're used to experiencing. I, too, have Irish blood (my maternal grandfather immigrated from Northern Ireland about 1870) so I'm sure your blood would also thicken if you came north.

Warmest wishes for 2022!,

Hugs,

Cindy

Cindy that is a beautiful setting! There is something special about a white Christmas. It’s lovely to get a glimpse into other worlds on this site given we are in a pandemic and travel is so difficult now. Those temperatures are too cold for me. Happy New Year.

Aww, thanks for the compliments, Vicki! It's good we can all appreciate beauty even if it is from afar. Remember -40 is the same on both the Celsius and Fahrenheit thermometers.

Warmest wishes to you and yours for 2022,

Cindy

That is a wonderland picture, but yes stay in the warm.Your tree is stunning,

Don’t go making snow angels, you will stick.

Thank you for sharing

Your note made me laugh, Clare. I'm very unlikely to try to make a snow angel, given that I'd wreck it anyway needing help to get up from the ground.

Thanks for the nice words!

Happy Hew Year to you and yours!

Hugs,

Cindy

Your view your tree your home look absolutely beautiful!! I love a white Christmas also but we didn't get it this year. Your fireplace sure looks cozy!! It was 28 degrees her yesterday and that was cold enough for me. We do get -teen temps once and awhile. I think the longest it ever lasted was a week. Then back to high 20 low 30 temps. I love the look of a lot of snow but hate the shoveling. Last year we had so much accumulation we had to shovel our deck off and our roofs because it was getting too heavy!!!!

Hazelgreen profile image
Hazelgreen in reply toJustme153

Hi You,Your response made me curious as to where you live, since you sometimes have snow, but don't, and sometimes have -teen temps that might last a week.

I think -15F is roughly equivalent to -26C so that's pretty cold, especially if you can expect +20F immediately thereafter!

My husband does all the shovelling, especially these days now that I have MBC. He is getting a bit old for such exertion, but says that he rests briefly after every 12 shovelfulls.

Thanks muchly for the nice compliments. Happy New Year to you and yours!

Hugs, Cindy

Lovely photos and so beautiful with snow. We used to get a lot of snow in England but over the last few decades less and less which is a shame. Nice to have that winter wonderland feel. Although I’m off to Centerparcs in Cumbria next week for a week so maybe not too much as it’s always the first road to be closed off due to snow from the North East of England.Enjoy your cosy beautiful house and all the best for 2022.

Hazelgreen in reply todebbiedo2063

Hi Debra,Thanks for your response and happy wishes! I find it interesting that England no longer gets as much snow as it used to get. I wonder why that is - the consequence of climate change?

I googled Cumbria, and learned that you'll likely see lots of snow in the mountains there. I hope you have a terrific holiday week, and bring in the new year very happily!

Hugs to you and yours,

Cindy

Stunning photos...and I loved hearing people weigh in about weather around the world. Here in NJ we had a dusting of snow on the 23rd and since then a tad warmer. My husband is playing golf with my nieces today!

Hazelgreen profile image
Hazelgreen in reply toAvidBooklover

Thanks for your compliments! A dusting of snow, and then a game of golf would appeal to many here in Saskatchewan!

Best of Wishes for 2022!

Hugs,

Cindy

Oh please keep your low temps girls , in Ontario we have a light dusting of snow and maybe a low of -5 a few nights . Roads are great for traveling ( if you need to go anywhere) .But Some how I feel this is going to change in the next few weeks in Ontario lol. Your home looks very festive & cosy Cindy enjoy ! Luann

Hazelgreen profile image
Hazelgreen in reply to

Hi Luann,Thanks for your kind words. Depending on where you are in Ontario, you too can certainly experience winter! I spent the first 40 years of my life there - born in the Ottawa valley, but then Parry Sound, Cochrane, Milton, Hamilton, and Kingston - ice and snow in all of those locations. I think our weather may indeed be coming your way so please stay warm.

Happy New Year to you and yours,

Hugs,

Cindy

The view from your living room is very nice! Inside looks warm and festive hope you are enjoying the Christmas Season! We in NYC are a little confused with the outbreak. I

Was able to enjoy Christmas Eve with just a few friends. Spent Christmas Day at my sisters and that was very nice my nephew had to cancel because he was exposed to omnicron. All in all we managed to celebrate!

Hazelgreen profile image
Hazelgreen

Thanks, ChrisVict, for your nice compliments! I'm glad you too were able to celebrate the season despite Covid variants!

It seems we immuno-compromised types will have to remain cautious about where we go, and who we see. The cold weather in Saskatchewan doesn't seem to slow down viruses. Perhaps, cold has the opposite effect in encouraging people to stay inside. Ideally, we'll all learn to value good air circulation.

Warmest wishes for 2022,

Hugs,

Cindy
