My hair is a disaster on the meds. Loosing it daily. Thining and limp. Need help. Suggestions. Should I shave it off and hope it grows back healthier ?

Are you getting IV chemo or is this from “maintenance “ meds. If the latter, welcome to my world. I had thick wavy hair and now I have rabbit hair on Ibrance. I keep it short, use products to try to add volume and have decided to leave it white. I have fun with the purple highlights. I don’t think shaving it will change anything but if you like the look go for it!

My hair is thinning too. I find tons of it in my hairbrush, drains, floors, furniture...but despite that, I still feel I have a lot on my head. An employee asked me yesterday “oh, you’re hair looks nice. Did you change meds? It had looked like you weren’t doing it before or it was dry”...(btw, who says that?!$&).

I wash every 2-3 days. I brush maybe twice per day. It is dryer on ends, thinning and doesn’t really style easily. I was thinking to maybe try a different cut or color for the fall. I’ll probably try changing my hair products too.

I take vitamin supplements and juice.

I have to use the dust buster every morning to suck up all the hair that I keep losing but fortunately for me I still have pretty thick hair. I have also found that sometimes I have tingling on my scalp. I have found that using coconut oil has helped. I put it all over my head and hair and then sleep with a shower cap on. Wash it in the morning- no residual oils and my hair feels soft and shiny. There is also a product at the natural foods store that has helped- forgot the name but it is made from plant stems and contains lavender. It tends to give my hair a little more fullness.

I would be hesitant to shave your hair off completely as Ibrance tends to be a maintenance med and your hair may not grow back completely until after you stop the Ibrance.

BTW- after this month's round I will have completed 1 full year with Ibrance.

I will definitely try the coconut oil. Congrats on the 1 year mark. That is awesome and encouraging for us newbies out here.

My hair thinned at first (only I noticed it, my hairdresser did not) but it seems to have leveled off. I'm on my 9th round of Ibrance and I noticed the change of not losing as much hair about month 6. LUSH makes animal free products and I love their shampoo bars to add volume. Good luck!

Hang in there. My hair thinned for months. I used voluminizing hair products for awhile until I started to wear a wig. Just about 2 months later, I noticed fine hair growing back in and ditched the wig. It was very fine and dry. A couple more months and my hairdresser said it was getting curly. Looks really good now . . . thicker and nice waves. Can go days between washings and it still looks good. Hope you also see good changes.

I struggle with my hair! Thinned out and hard to manage! I cut it short and it frizzes up and it appears dry. Sick of trying products too! I tried wearing a wig if I go out but somehow it feels heavy on my head like it’s constricting me and I don’t like that either!!!!

Thank you. Cut it short and well and stopped blow drying. It does look fuller this way

My hair thinned on the first cycle of Ibrance--especially at day 18! I was shocked at how much was in the shower drain. I am now on my second cycle--and there is still a lot of loose hairs around--but nowhere near as much as at first. I started oral biotin, and have studied the hair products that contain biotin, etc. but have not tried them. I have read that the hair follicles grow in 3 stages--one is active, the second not so active and the 3rd is resting. I suppose the Ibrance kills off the hair follicles in one of the cycles. I wish they had some published information on this process--then we would all know what to expect. I would suggest don't shave and just wait and see--it will stop thinning so rapidly.

Thank you. Researching products and from what I can tell it's all about the scalp.

Mine is coming out faster than new coming in. I cut it quite short and am using a spray to cover roots and almost bare scalp. I also got a wig that I’m still getting trimmed up.

I'm anxious to see if the biotin works. Aveda has a scalp product but it's pretty pricey.

One woman that has been on Ibrance for over 3 years told me her hair improved after two months on biotin. I think she said it regrew. I also had brain surgery first of June--so the area that they shaved is very slowly growing back in! They look like little Dennis the Menace tufts! We forget how long it takes for hair to grow.

Wow. Good to know the product works and it's not a continuous hair loss. Thanks for that update

What type of scalp product?

Jamie724 profile image

Aveda has a product that you apply to the scalp 2 times a day. It is step 1 of a 3 step process. It stimulates growth and increases hair diameter
