Mastectomy wound

Hi ladies I had a left mastectomy in Jan 17, have had various treatments and have been on Cape for about 1 1/2 years but unfortunately it has stopped working and I am about to start Kadcyla IV. Recently a small wound has opened along line of my mastectomy scar, they have taken a biopsy as they think it might be the cancer on my chest wall!! Has this happened to anyone else? If so what happened and were they able to do anything about it? Thank you.

Oh wow Anita!! I’m dealing with this right now! I had a right mastectomy October 2019. Then this July I noticed purplish bruise looking spot(s) right under my scar. It sort of followed along the incision. I thought it was a bruise. When my onc saw it I knew it wasn’t good by the look on his face. A biopsy revealed breast cancer in my skin on the chest wall. Uggg! It was lots of little nodules right at my skin. I actually had it surgically removed (26 cm by 3 inches in incision) 4 weeks ago. The surgeon closed it by pulling my skin up to my mastectomy scar. Boy it is pulled tight. I can hardly raise my arm. I’m afraid it’s going to split open. Anyway so I had been on herceptin perjeta every three weeks. (Still am for the moment) I had radiation back in February under my arm for some lymph nodes. Now he wants more radiation on the lower chest wall where this skin stuff was to prevent it from growing back. The surgeon couldn’t get clear margins. I also go back on Sept 30 to see my onc to find out his decision if I’m changing my treatment to xeloda.

A scan was done prior to my surgery to see if it had spread anywhere else. The first line of my report actually said no evidence of metastatic disease!! That’s the first time I’ve ever had that said. I was so happy. However I guess skin Mets doesn’t show on ct scans.

Please keep me updated on your situation and we can get through this together.

Wishing you all the best with your treatment,

Stacy

So happy you have found a resource in Stacy. You can both help each other through this time. I would get a second opinion if possible. I know that is not so easy in the UK. Keep us posted and wishing you all the best.

Cheers, June S.

I am sorry both you ladies are having to go through this, it sounds very distressing. I hope you both get some peace of mind soon.Clare
