Fulvestrant injections

Hi all. Had 2 lots of injections over this last month and having another 2 next week. I have found them quite painless although with the last ones I had sore btm but with walking and rubbing it was all good. Hoping fulvestrant will work but we will see. The nurses and oncologist have been amazing and explain things in detail which is good as it takes a bit of time to sink into my head. Hope my dear friends all the best for you all. Keep up the fight. Xx

Thank you beryl171. Tried to be positive. Usually I'm so anxious and negative but trying not to over think everything .

Thank you love2golfwell. Had bad time with anxiety and morbid thoughts so trying to look on the bright side if there is one. Oh dear...there I go again.

You are welcome. I think it would be unusual for someone to not have some anxiety and morbid thoughts at some point with this diagnosis. It is hard to stay positive all of the time. I try to look at the positives of having options of different medications to help keep things under control and the fact that right now I feel pretty good and can do many of the things I want to do. But I have days I get anxious and sad thinking about what the future might hold and shed some tears for myself as well as all of the ladies on this site. My husband reminds me of the positives in my life and encourages me to focus on those and not think about future things I have no control over. Don't be upset with yourself when you have anxiety or morbid thoughts, but try to practice some calming breaths and tell yourself good things that you are grateful for and reasons to keep fighting. Please know that you have love and support here.

Thank you for your kind and sensible words. My husband was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and I miss him so much. He went from a tall strong ex royal marine to a little yellow man when his spine collapsed. His pain was so bad. I cared for him at home and I miss him and his logical and positive words. I keep going for my family as they have had enough sorrow and heartbreak. It was good to hear how understanding your husband is when he speaks to you. Sorry to carry on so much but I'm having a really bad and fearful day today. Thank you for letting me pour out my fears to you.

You are welcome. I am so very sorry for the loss of your husband. It must have been such a difficult journey for both of you. You definitely need to keep fighting. I have a mantra that I say two times a day when I am brushing my teeth. It came from a series called Becoming Cancer Free that I watched. The first line is "I am becoming my own healer, I am responsible for my health, I can truly heal from within." The second line is "I will be patient, I know that true healing takes time, knowledge and daily action." The third line is "I will never give up, I will persevere until I heal, learning, improving and growing as I go." When I say these, I hold my hand over my heart and close my eyes. I then say 3 things I am grateful for and end with thanking God for the blessings He has given me. It is a very positive affirmation and really helps me. I feel very peaceful while I am saying this to myself. Maybe you could try this when you are feeling anxious. This group has been a godsend to me and I hope it will be for you as well. Sending hugs.

Happy you are tolerating the shots.

Thank you dawn53094. I hope it works too. Thing is because of my heart problems they can't give me strong mets like chemo etc so relying on this which I feel I can tolerate.

Thank you Marion's. Thing is that my heart problem is serious and because of my advanced age I grateful for anything they can do. Hope you are bearing up too. X

Are you saying injections every two weeks, or two (one per hip) every month? I found Fulvestrant to work a miracle. I couldn't walk more than a few steps because I couldn't breathe, but within four days of the first injection, I could jog uphill!

in reply to TammyCross

2 injections every 2 weeks at the moment. They do a countdown 321 then sick the needles in one each side at the same time. So pleased it works for you. Gives me hope it may work for me. Thank you for replying.

That's a lot. They want to get it in there big time and quickly. Worked miracles for me for 2 years, then stopped.

I have been on Fulvestrant since March of 2019 with stable scans. I have liver mets. The only side effects I have had are soreness, bruising and some times itching. Try to relax when the nurses are giving you the injections. Don't tense up. Good luck to all of us.
