I discussed my first vaccine with oncologist and GP. Was advised to have during week of ibrance. Now the surgery are bringing forward date of second vaccine which doesn't coincide. If I don't take the date I'll have to keep waiting month on month until their system coincides with my week off.
My oncologist is in long term leave and my key worker nurse has retired and I'm struggling to get advice, any suggestions?

Carolyn, if your second vaccine is only due at the end of April and you want it to coincide with the end of your week off Ibrance , I would ring your GP and let them know . They will still be doing second vaccines in two weeks time at a number of locations in your area . My second vaccine (Astra Zeneca) was offered one month earlier and I arranged it with my GP to have it towards the end of my week off at a large Christian centre . My husband got his second jab ( Pfizer) a month earlier than was expected too at a different location to his first vaccine in our area . We were all originally told there would be a 12 week gap between our first and second vaccines but they have got through them much quicker ... the 40-50 age group are now being offered their first ones. Luckily I had no side effects with my second jab ( other than sore to touch arm at the site of the vaccine ) . x
Unfortunately my surgery isn't doing it so it's been passed to another surgery. They want to change the date. As it's astro Zeneca I can't see why they can't keep in the fridge for me for a week. I looked at the national centres and they're not offering those dates yet and some want you to register for both. I've now left it with my GP to see if they can sort it out. At least I'm well enough to fight my corner!
My first free lateral flow covid testing kit has arrived ( 2 days after ordering it online on the gov.uk site ) so will start self testing twice a week for peace of mind ! Ordered some for my daughter too in London ! ( It’s available free of charge to all adults in England )

I had the same situation but went ahead into my second week of Ibrance and was fine. Usual arm ache and tiredness but I was over that quickly. My Oncologist said just have it.Hope this helps. I had the Pfizer Vaccine.
As long as the lbranceis working l have never had trouble skipping a week if l had to because l was sick or my counts were too low. I wouldn't fret it - take an extra week off, get your vaccine then go back to the regular schedule.Wishing you the best of outcomes on all fronts. Take care, Mary ❤.
Thanks. At the moment noone has suggested skipping a week. I haven't ever had to so that would be something new for me. From other replies here it seems people are having the vaccine during their ibrance meds with no ill effects so that's reassuring.
The date given for the second vaccine is the MINIMUM time you have to wait for that dose. Anytime after that is ok. They now are seeing that the first dose gives 80-90% protection as well.
I've never heard of a maximum time, only the minimum. Some countries (UK for example) have opted to pause the second doses so that more people can get the first dose, better protecting the community as a whole. But I know data and procedures change daily as we learn new info!
My oncologist said it was not necessary to wait to take the vaccine during your week off. She said take it anytime during the cycle...just take it. I did both shots and all was fine. If I had needed scans during the vaccine process or up to 6 weeks after the 2nd, she was going to be a little leery of that since the vaccine has led to false positives concerning lymph nodes. Luckily, my labs and antigen tests showed no need at this time for scans so I am good and now fully vaccinated.
Hi Sandra: Here in the US, if one waits more than 5 weeks after the first vaccine, they will not give you the 2nd. You have to wait 3 months & start the first shot over again. There are no clinical trials showing the efficacy of having the 2nd shot more than 5 weeks out. I have Canadian friends who are very frustrated by this. Hopefully they come up with a better solution soon.
Wow! Sorry to hear you’ve been left in the lurch! I talked to my Onc about the vaccine as some on here have said theirs took them off the Ibrance for a few weeks. He disagreed and said continue all MBC treatment as usual. I am having my second Moderna vaccine this afternoon and I am 1 day into my second week of this 3 week cycle of Ibrance. Hope this helps.
Just remember that the first dose alone gives 80-90% protection, which is a lot more than most other vaccines! (My onc told me this a few appointments ago.) When I was having difficulty getting my first dose scheduled he also said just get the vaccine whenever you can, regardless of where you are in the Ibrance cycle. I did and had no issues at all.
Thank you for that information. I didn’t know. I am due for my second in a couple of weeks. I really didn’t have any reaction to my first and wondered if my immune system even noticed !!! We were the last tier too for cancer patients .. very frustrating ...My siblings are well and younger than me .. they work in service industry and health care so they were in a tier before me and they felt sick after their first and second shots ..
How the advice and knowledge seems to vary! I'll continue to take care despite the vaccine. My understanding is that any virus or infection can cause a problem when on immunotherapy.
