No appetite and extreme nausea. Ideas for alternative remedies?

Hello ladies,

I hope you are all doing ok. I read you on here everyday and follow your progress.

I have a question that's not about me, but for a dear friend. Her mum has very recently been diagnosed with lung cancer with mets to bones. She isn't yet under treatment, but is unable to eat anything and feels nauseous all the time. The pet scan hasn't shown any activity in her stomach or digestive area, so unsure if this is a physical or emotional reaction.

Taking anti nausea meds that is usually given to those having chemotherapy has helped a little.

Would anyone have any suggestions of natural / alternative remedies or medications to deal with extreme nausea and lack of appetite?

Has anyone else experienced a severe lack of appetite and found a way of eating again?

Thank you very much.

Hello Here-nowGinger helps with nauseas, there are some gummies or teas that can help (hopefully she likes ginger). CBD has been helping a friend of mine with appetite and also to feel less anxious. I don’t know where the mother of your friend lives but maybe therapeutic cannabis ? It does help me a little for appetite and with stress management.

Also Acupuncture and acupressure are two techniques that can be helpful (I have not tried personally).

Good luck to her

Hi ... ive always used queasy drops from amazon for sickness .. you can get them in sweets or in lollipops .. they are great even for that change of taste you get in your mouth with chemo .. hope this helps xxx

GInger candies can help enormously. Chewing gum can help. A little cannabis can help too! Have you tried having her drink Boost...at least it will give her a little nutrition.

I lost my appetite while on Afinitor, and my nurse practitioner put me on Remeron, which is actually an anti depressant (which I don’t need because I’m always (crazily) cheerful), but which increase appetite AND helps you to sleep! It has worked for me....I’ve gained back 15 pounds at least! Good luck to your friend....

If she is open to medical cannabis, it can help a lot. And, it doesn't mean she needs to smoke it. There are tinctures, edibles, vapes, etc.

CBD tincture or smoke pot if she can. It’s the only thing that helped me when I was feeling that way.

I also think a ginger tea might help with the nausea. Nothing worse - well almost nothing worse - than nausea in my books so I hope your friend finds a way to get relief.

Ensure helped me a lot!!!My nausea was that I had issues with dehydration, when I drank the ensure it helped.

I ate whatever I wanted — hello Taco Bell.

There is a book out called Cancer Kitchen that has recipes pending on what you are feeling.

All the best to her

❤️Tara
