I’ve taken Xeloda for two weeks and I am now in the middle of my week off.
I’ve felt ok, just a little bit more tired and my palms of my hands are very dry and flaky... this could however be due to using antibacterial gel ....
I’m due bloods on Thursday and hoping to start my 2nd cycle on Friday.
Just hope it’s kicking the C into touch ...

Hi JoI did my first two weeks on Xeloda and the week off and was sort of ok
However during the first week of the second cycle my feet and hands were red/burning and a few blisters on my feet which hurt
I informed my oncologist who told me to stop immediately and restart in a week then do one week off and carry on alternate weeks...after a few days the hand foot syndrome is back and I feel crap...I’ve texted my oncologist again to ask for advice on stopping or reducing the dose....if she doesn’t reply today I’ll reduce the dose myself...can’t put up with this
I take 3 x500 tabs plus x250 tab twice a day
I’ve read that reducing the dose works just as well
I never had problems with my other treatments like this
We are once again on the same treatment ...... I’m on 4 x 500g twice a day, but I’m overweight and dosage does go on your weight....
I’m very sorry that you are suffering so much with your feet. It sounds very painful.
I also understand that the dose can be reduced and that this should help with side effects.
As a precaution, I’ve been using MooGoo Udder Cream a couple of times a day on my hands and feet.
I’m also worried if this treatment will actually work as I’ve suffered progression in the liver twice since June....
I’m also still suffering with a wobbly tooth that my dentist is reluctant to extract. I’m doing everything I can to care for it.
Bubble and Squeak are nearly 25 weeks old and still not laying but I may have to wait for the Spring. I’m not letting them free-range at the moment because of bird flu.
I’m slowing starting to heal a little following the death of my dear friend Anna.
Keep me posted on how you get on with lowering your dose.
Barb, I’m thinking of you and really hope you can get on the right dose without harsh side effects. I fully understand we need as much quality of life as possible.
Hi Sandra and joMy oncologist has just replied to my text...told me to stop the Xeloda as I’m seeing her on Wednesday...she did mention lowering the dose
I do remember it was measured against my weight/surface area...I’m not small about 5ft 8 ins and weigh just under 10 stone...so normal for my height
It was naughty to contemplate adjusting my dose but at least she told me to completely stop!!!... so I wouldn’t have felt too guilty...just had enough today....a combination of this medication, feeling rubbish in general, my vision not improved and I still haven’t ridden the horses...on a positive note I’ve been swimming a few times
I was rather surprised that the sauna and steam room are open for up to four people....before this lockdown they were closed and only the pool was open and now we’re level 3... makes no sense...I didn’t go in there but others did....then they saunter into the changing room area where everyone is changing/showering...I don’t like that or am I paranoid?... this is David Lloyd not some obscure place
Thanks Sandra As always you are so knowledgeable and a big help...I never quite understood the dosages and it seems it varies from 500-2000 mg twice daily for different ladies
I’m about to start my 3rd round, and it has worked really well for me! My lungs have cleared, my liver enzymes are better, and my lymph nodes have decreased...my main side effect is diarrhea but taking Immodium every morning seems to keep it pretty well in check. I love this drug! I hope it keeps working! And I really hope you have a good experience with it too. Think of me tomorrow....I’ll be going over my first CAT scan with it with my doctor-then we’ll be sure of what it’s done!
Best wishes for your scan. I also love this drug so far. Side effects under control, I have some energy and my cancer markers are coming down, I don’t have my next scan til February so I won’t know how well it is really working until then, but I’m hopeful.
It turns out that the Xeloda is really helping, but I don’t have a. “Complete response”....but all my tumors have shrunk, and my liver function is normal again, so that is all to be celebrated! She is going to keep me on it, at a slightly higher dose (at my suggestion!)...maybe that will help. I guess a complete response would be if everything had shrunk more...it was all maybe 30%. But I feel great and it’s working pretty well, so things are good!
My body could not tolerate 2 weeks on Xeloda. My hands and feet completely peeled. I use Udder cream from Amazon to help me. I also got so dehydrated I had to be hospitalized for six days in June.
I am now on Xeloda for a week and then off for a week. I take 2 pills in the Am and Pm. My cancer numbers keep dropping. Was down to 125 two weeks ago. I get my blood test on Thursday.
I have metastatic breast cancer in the lining of my stomach and a structure in my rectum. I hope it keeps working.
Keep up your fluids. I drink coconut water, orange juice, and tomato juice. I looked up how to stay hydrated. Coconut water has potassium.
