Hi everyone - so my mom was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer with 2 tumors in her bone - T2 & L4 regions. She is considering doing radiation - an oncologist said today she has 2 approaches - a conservative approach and then SBRT. Risks of SBRT are nerve damage, paralysis, and bone damage because it is so strong. Has anyone done this? She is currently taking letrozole. I appreciate it.
Has anyone had SBRT?: Hi everyone - so... - SHARE Metastatic ...
Has anyone had SBRT?
I have asked my oncologist about SBRT
I also started with 2 lesions in my lower back. these lesions were observed closely.
The decision not to use SBRT came from that it is used only if you are in extreme pain. Bone Mets is systematic and Best approached with a systematic drug. The SBRT is extreme and should be used as a last resort. I’m told that places can only take 1 to 2 SBRT without damaging best to use when necessary. Also keep in mind each case is different and this is how it applied to my situation. That being said I now have a lot more lesions gone through Harmonal treatment and presently on MTor inhibitor and exestamane but no
pain at worst that Tylenol can’t fix at this stage.
I had sbrt on a lesion in my lung. It is high dose but very precise as to not damage tissues around the tumor. It was so easy. I couldn’t tell I had it at all. It was done on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It took about 45 min each of those days. I went in before hand for them to make precise calculations and they drew spots on me where the beams would go in. They had to account for breathing movement since it was in my lung. They said breath normal well that is almost impossible when someone is watching you. Haha. I had no side effects and it killed the tumor. Don’t have to worry about that one anymore.
I wouldn’t call it a last resort treatment. I would definitely do it again. In fact I have an appt Friday with that dr. My oncologist says we need to keep him in our back pocket in case we want to do it again.
Hope this info helps.
