My mom just had a kyphoplasty procedure last Tuesday to her lumbar spine as a precautionary procedure to strengthen her bone after having SBRT radiation. She has been taking codeine for the past few days but is still in a significant amount of pain, although the pain she experienced in her legs decreased some. Has anyone had this procedure and if so how long did it take until the pain went away? Thank you

Has anyone had kyphoplasty procedure to lumbar spine & how long did pain last?
I've not had kyphoplasty, but with her pain that severe, one of you ought to call her onc's office and let the onc know and ask for relief for her. Unfortunately, we really need to become advocates for ourselves, not always easy.
Hey Jac-genova,I didnt have the same thing done however back in July, basically a year after being diagnosed with bc in both breast which spread to my bones, I had a tumor on my spine that was crushing 2 of my vertebraes and causing me incredible pain. By the time I made it to Chapel Hill I couldn't walk. My pelvic area was in horrific pain also. So I had surgery and radiation because if not I would have been paralyzed from my waist down. Before I went to the hospital my feet and legs were numb and I was basically bedridden scared to death to go to the hospital because of covid and also because I didnt think I would make it out and my husband would not be allowed in. However God pulled me through like he has been doing all my life. I was in alot of pain before but after surgery after the healing started to take place I felt better and they came up with a pain management plan and it worked wonders. I have never been a person to take pain meds but for this kind of pain I had too. So with that being said it could take time for your mom to heal. I am still healing. I was in the hospital for 6 weeks. I have to wear a brace because my bones were to weak for rods. When you have cancer your immune system is already fighting so it has to fight even harder to heal anything else that comes along. My incision is just now healing since my surgery on Aug 3rd. And it took a month for me to get over covid and I still have some symptoms. I didnt mean to ramble but I just wanted to say I understand her pain and so does God. It may take a while to heal but she will heal! Also I have learned that this mbc has its ups and downs and it also causes pain, physically, emotionally mentally. I just had my scans done since my surgery and my bones are stable my tumor counts came down drastically and I am a miracle just like we all are. I am on codeine myself for pain. I take Letrozole, ibrance and xgeva as my treatment. However it's been well over a month I havent been on ibrance due to the covid and couldn't have my shot due to low calcium. I just went yesterday for a covid test to make sure I am negative so I can start back on my ibrance. I will definitely keep your mom and her pain in my prayers because I can totally relate. Thanks for letting me share I hope it encourages you all in some way! Blessings!

Hi Michelle, So you mind if we chat? I have been fighting BC fir 16 years... MBC found 6 months ago with spine ribs and hips in pain. My onc is worried about my spine leading to paralysis so maybe ours is similar...I’m on Ibrance faslodex - ans Xgeva too. What did they do to fix you up? Surgery? I am wondering if having radiation to the spine will stop things... they seems to want to wait but what if things break and then there is more pain. My onc is very nice but doesn’t seem to want to do anything but react when things go bad. What did you do and would you do anything differently?
