Mammogram Update Results

Hello everyone, as I mentioned before, my mom (dialysis patient, 43) finally got her follow up mammogram after her breast cancer removal on February. (A year ago she had a carcinoid removed from her lung but the bc is not linked to it.) After that bc surgery they said she was okay, she just got the tumor removed and she is taking pills. After the surgery, she had a mammogram which revealed some little spots, but her oncologists said those looked benign and to follow up in 6 months. Now, in my last post I said it is time for a new mammogram, and she just had it a few days ago. Doctor said that again, those spots were there, but they seemed benign to him, and sent them to the oncologist which said just follow up in a few months. We were like okay about it. But reading the letter of the results made me feel a bit scared of anything happening again. I opened it today and it said "what we found seems to be benign, and could probably not be cancer, but follow up in 6 months." I think it is is reading the word "cancer" that makes me scared to my core since the last time we found out it was a nightmare especially with her being in dialysis :( I am scared that it will happen again. I know the results say it seems benign, and that nothing has changed, but just seeing "cancer" and "may not be" makes me nervous. I just need some words to lift my spirits to be honest. She is also having a PET scan in a week, for her lung, and anxiety is up to the sky right now. But yeah, the letter threw me off a bit even though the doctor explained it all seemed ok now, just to keep it in check.

Hi janeths466 -

I know how even the word "cancer" can send a jolt of fear, especially if you're on tenterhooks re: the upcoming PET. In addition to the doc's words, and the letter - which is comforting but oddly worded (!) - I think the suggestion of a 6 month follow up also indicates a lack of urgency/concern. Although I know it's hard to shake off the worry!

I do hope that you're able to find a way to become more settled about it all...Every day you spend worrying is obviously a theft of your happiness!

Take care, and please let us know how you and your mom make out...

Sending my very best,

Lynn

Thank you so much! Your words really mean a lot :) Woke up feeling better, and you are right, worrying will not help much.
