I can't believe how people are so ignorant about wearing their masks! Those type of people are one of the reasons this virus has spread so much!

Hi Kiera

I’m not surprised after I walked into Nottingham last weekend to have my hair done....nobody followed the one way signs on the pavement...hardly saw a mask...the thing is if you do make a comment you’re likely to get a mouthful of abuse

I feel sorry for the bus drivers as it’s not their place to enforce rules and they’re probably scared to say anything

I despair over such thoughtless people...dread to think how the new legislation re mask wearing in shops will work...there’ll just be arguments all the time...poor people who work in these places

I’m sticking to mail order for now

I had to say something bet he thought I was being stroppy but he put his mask on to get on bus then wore it under his chin, told him you should be wearing your mask, he said it keeps falling down, (only because he pulled it down) so said tighten it then, he said I will. There already meaning about having to wear them in shops, so could be interesting, back to hosp to see onc

You are every right to say something especially bc our condition makes it even worse if we catch this virus. But I understand what you mean by people starting getting nasty back. Fortunately, I grew up in Brooklyn and have worked in Manhattan my whole life so I have no problems telling people that they need to wear a mask. It it SELFISH.

You should see the videos in NY that are put on youtube. In NY, Brooklyn, Queens, shoppers attacking anyone they see without a mask, basically driving them out of the stores. I mean they gang up on someone if they come in without a mask.

But we lost 22,000 people in several weeks bc of this darn virus so people now are angry and they go into verbal attack mode. Plus there are loads of videos of store managers NOT allowing people into the stores without a mask and the people trying to push through.

It is very selfish. I have not been out socially in months. Finally, although NY has calmed down a bit (we did not lose one life yesterday which was a big plus), my friend invited me to a backyard barbecue for her daughter who had a virtual high school graduation.

I know how big her yard is (not that big, it is Staten Island). She also has an above-ground pool, plus a big barbecue pit. I asked how many people she was having. She said 18. I said you do not have the room for 18 people to socially distance. I asked if they would be wearing masks. She said I can't force them to (Yes you can, it's your home).

So although I wanted to go more than anything just to see people and socialize, I said No, I cannot go there. So I did not go bc I know I have a high chance of winding up on a ventilator so I made the choice not to attend even though I was kind of depressed that night watching netflix but it is what it is.

In the UK it’s all ‘too little too late’ for mask wearing...people seem complacent and it is a worry

I don’t food shop or go on public transport...I drive to my horses yard and go for walks on my own...that’s it

Swimming pools and gyms are opening on 24th...might swim but only if safe...I’m a member of a private club so it’s not usually busy but it’s a difficult decision ...changing rooms will concern me not the actual pool itself

I read that swimming in pools are okay bc of the stuff in the pool water, but as usual, just social distance. I would go into a regular above ground pool if there was 3 people or less it in. As long as the pool is big enough and you can stay away from people and just swim and relax and if the pool is big enough, there should be problem from what I am reading. We are going to be in this for the long haul so we need to do those things that we can while using common sense. Wear gloves while changing. I am sure (or hope) in lieu of this virus, that peoples like that are disinfecting every night.

I miss going to restaurants. I really do. Some poor security good at a Walmart in Queens (and Walmart has stated on TV nobody is allowed in without a mask). Some poor security guard who probably makes minimum wage would not allow a woman in who did not have a mask. She called her freaking boyfriend and he drove over and actually shot the security guard and killed him. The man had four kids.

People now can get arrested. There was one woman who was angry that the store was giving her a hard time and following her to get out of bc she had no mask on. She started coughing on all the fresh fruit. Cops came and she was arrested and the owner of the store lost alot of money bc he had to throw out all the fruit.

Even when and if a vaccine is found, I feel that this fear will live with people a long time. The hair salons just opened in Phase II of NY. Have to have appts. and they have certain rules, workers and customers have to wear masks and only one person can work on a customer at one time.

My hair roots are a mess but I still do not feel safe yet about someone I don't know being that close to me in a hair salon. I am not that vain that I can't wait or I will buy boxed color and do it myself.

I do order take out food though. They encourage us to order takeout bc restaurants in NY still cannot open for inside customers although in Phase II, they are allowed to put tables outside but they have to be six feet apart and for most of them, it does not even pay for them to do that. They are making more money doing takeoff.

So many people in US losing jobs. Over 42 million on UE in USA alone and its going to get worse. I almost feel grateful I am getting SSDI bc it allows me to pay my rent and buy food. Others have it so much worse.

How awful for you across the Atlantic...thank goodness few people have guns over here...that poor security guard being killed just over a mask...I cannot get over it!!

I had my hair done last week...extensions put in...the salon was organised and I felt safe..I didn’t have to wear a mask but the staff wore masks and shields and we had temperature checks and walked through a disinfectant bath

We now have to wear masks from I think 24 th July so let’s hope there won’t be any violence because of the rule being enforced

I’m looking forward to swimming again but I’ll maybe try and avoid the changing rooms...thought I might even drive to pool in my swimsuit and a towelling robe and drive back wet?.. ok if it’s warm weather

You made a good decision. I know how hard it is to be isolated and not socialize. I want to so badly also!

kearnan profile image
kearnan in reply tomariootsi

I know I made the right decision, but I was really depressed bc I had not been out in months seriously except for Cancer Center. I wanted to go so bad, but the thought of being on a ventilator was enough to make me realize that I did the right thing. I was just kind of sad that night. Netflix is now my spouse and significant other LOL

In NY, we still have to wear masks in all stores, and just this week, any residential apt. buildings with an elevator can only have two people at a time in one elevator. I live in a high-rise with 12 floors and a penthouse floor with apts. A through J. That is alot of people but I get it. I am lucky that I am on 5th floor so I can walk down five flights but I cannot walk up. But so far no big issues. I will do anything I am supposed to to ensure that NY never goes through what we did a few weeks ago.

I no longer have patience for anyone who is not wearing a mask when they are legally required to do so. Went shopping in a grocery mart near my house that I rarely go to bc they sell primarily Kosher food but I can get cleaning products there. The aisles are narrow.

There is a big sign on the door that you are not allowed to enter without a mask on. I looked in first and it was far from crowded so alot of room to do some cleaning good shopping and social distancing and then I saw him.

A 30-ish year old man walking around without a mask while everybody else had on one. I find it hard bc my bc is in my lungs so breathing is hard to begin with.

I was furious. I stated in a loud voice (which made the others with their wagons and masks stop to watch). I said you are supposed to have a mask on. You see everybody else in this store has a mask on. It clearly states on the front door. I said you are not special and how dare you be so selfish and you need to go to management desk and get on immediately.

He just looked at me. About 10 mins later I am going down another aisle and I see him at the end of the aisle and he has a mask but he is wearing it around his neck. I let him have it. I yelled down that I am coming down the aisle and that mask is supposed to be worn on your face and NOT around your neck and I need you to put it on immediately bc I am coming down the aisle. I said if you do not, I am going to make a scene like you would not believe.

He put it on and as I passed him (I admit, I was wrong, but I am fed up with selfish people). I said you are an ___hole for being so damn selfish and not caring about possibly infecting other people and you are an adult so you should know better and you better hope if I run into you again, that mask better be on your face.

I then made a report to the manager stating it is your job to make sure they come in with a mask, not mine otherwise I will take a video and/or a photo and report that you are allowing people into the store without a mask.

I don't care anymore. I speak up even if I am alone (which usually I am) if someone is NOT wearing a mask. It is selfish. You don't want to wear a mask, then stay home and order your food online.

Good for you. If I am sitting away from someone on a bus and far enough way, I do not care if they are not wearing a mask if I am at least six feet away. But if less or there are more people on bus or in store, we have every right to shame and demand that they put their mask on.

You’re braver than me!!

In England you’re probably going to get punched in the face...they’re so ignorant

Barb xx

kearnan profile image
kearnan in reply toBarbteeth

I am sure people in England even if they punch are nicer than anybody in NY, especially Brooklyn. First, I was surprised he got into the store. But now I am just furious. If everybody else is wearing a mask and I am told (which I dont understand really) that it is more to protect others than to protect myself. So that makes me angry. So now, I do not care anymore. I say something. But more and more people in Brooklyn are getting fed up so you see these videos in a supermarket when a person dares to come in without a mask. One person will say something and then the next thing you know the lady is surrounded by people screaming Get out...Get out of this store now bc they are all wearing masks. All you need is one person to say something and then the others follows the lead. Some of the videos are actually funny to watch bc you see the person literally run out of the store. But of course you have to gauge each situation. Even bus drivers...they get spit on. For some , it is now a weapon and a crime in NY to spit or cough on somebody. Some sick people out there. I don't know if you can see it, but below is an URL for a video in a Staten Island grocery store.

Do they have any organizations in your area, cancer organizations? Because there are organizations where volunteers drive people to and from appts. if they have cancer and do not drive or have anyone to take them.

Not sure but it's nice to get out after all that shielding, although I am exempt from wearing mask but choose to as dont trust people to wear a mask proper, my partners coming with me and he will speak out if people aren't wearing a mask he said I've protected you by shielding you, so will protect you against selfish people

How thoughtless. I have to go to hospital too. It seems that as my gp is in one hospital area and my oncology deartment in another, the blood tests get lost despite having the paperwork.

I've also been disappointed that Boots pharmacy won't deliver the Ibrance. They just say you'll have to find a neighbour or phone the covid support hub! But that won't he there for ever. I'm.a very independent person and hate relying on others.

You take care.

in reply toBeryl71

Hi, I was told today I’m back to monthly visits for my bloods and treatment. I’m on Ibrance and Letrozole. I’ve gone 5 months without my Denosumab jab but had one today. I can have my Letrozole delivered but not Ibrance. My chemist is literally a two minute walk away so I call them, they get it ready and whe; I get there I tap on the window and they bring it out. My doctor has never done my bloods. I’ve always had to go to the hospital and results are there within hours. For that I am grateful. Best wishes

Me too. I find that now I have to ask for help with everything. Don't have a car, so I used to take a cab or medical transportation . But medical transportation is limited right now. And we can't know if the driver of the car is infected or not!

Have to ask my daughter and son- in - law and a neighbors grandaughter for everything! Hate it, but I know I'm lucky to have them!

Yes I've felt very loved since my diagnosis, so many offers of help. I'm a very independent person, but realised it was was about allowing others to show they care.

Don't know anything about that. It's the Ibrance, it's dispensed by Boots at the hospital and can only be done through Boots. All my other medication is done through Lloyds and delivered by post. My nearest Boots is about 6 miles away.

I am going to Butlins in august I know it's a bit dodgy but may not be able to go next year if I'm not well enough and butlins have taken all the precautions and will be running at 40% capacity of people, going to wear my mask in hotel and gloves while in lift, take gloves off when I get out of lift, wipe down apartment door handle then wash my hands like crazy, things people touch going to wipe down

Kiera it’s awful. I don’t use public transport but we read an article about a man on our local bus coughing up and spreading muck over the seat and walls of the bus. A passenger video him. Fortunately the driver made him get off the bus after an argument then he drove his bus up the road, made the 4 passengers get off and rang the depot to get a replacement bus out whilst they deep cleaned his bus. Honestly, all this on video to. I went for my treatment at our new hospital today. Fantastic apart from coming down in the lift from the 6th floor the lift stopped on level 1, a man got in and no mask. Makes me furious. It’s a purpose built hospital for Cancer patients so you would think people would be sensitive to everything. Grrrrr.......angry.

Kiera49 profile image

I know its disgusting , that man without a mask kept touching his nose and putting fingers in his mouth and then leaning on seat in front of him, luckily was far enough away from me, back to hospital today to see onc (always nervous about that) although its just for drug change. My partner is coming with me today and he always says something if someone isn't wearing their mask properly

In the U.S. the mask issue has become political. So sad. I recently heard three respected infectious disease doctors on TV. All three said the U.S. needs to shut down and require masks. One said we can do it now or later wish that we had. Covid-19 is too far out of control at this point. We opened up not following medical guidelines and simple changes will no longer work. The world seems to have gone crazy. I just hope one of the vaccines work long term. The antibodies produced by the disease are not lasting long. Blessings Hannah
