Dry Eyes?

Hi Ladies,

I'm just posting this in case it helps anyone else anyone else as much as it has helped me. Since I started taking Letrozole my eyes have become very dry - itchy, burny, watery etc. I use eye drops and take sea buckthorn, both of which help but the problem remained. I read somewhere that post-menopausal women can suffer from blocked ducts around the rim of the eyes which means that the tears are only water and don't contain the tiny amount of oil needed to keep the eyes properly lubricated. The remedy is simple, soak closed eyes in hot water with an eye bath or hot face cloth for a few minutes then wipe around the upper and lower rims of the eye with a clean finger. The change for me was immediate and substantial, my eyes feel so much better, so I imagine my oil ducts must have been blocked. You can also use baby shampoo to dissolve the tiny oil plugs if water alone doesn't do it but I haven't tried that. The relief was enormous for me so I hope this might help someone else. Have a good weekend everyone. xxx

Thank you so much for this tip. I have been suffering from dry eyes for a long time and the artificial tears I’ve been using have not alleviated my problem.

Thank you so much for this! I too have dry eyes And am on Letrozole as well but didn’t make the connection. I use a salve each night before going to bed but it doesn’t completely remedy the situation. Trying warm eye bath tomorrow.

Thanks and best regards,

Kathleen

I hope it helps. The article did say bathe eyes twice a day for a while but after the first time mine were so, so much better. xxx

your eyes aren't producing membium on their own, drops are only a band-aid. gotta increase your omega three to omega six ratio by eating fatty fish like sardines, and salmon. I eat canned sardines every day for lunch & I have seen major improvement in my eye dryness. Dr Ken Berry has a video all about this on YT:

I have suffered from dry eyes too. My optician recommended an eye mask that can be heated in a microwave. It is so soothing. She also told me to avoid eye drops/lubrication that contain preservatives as they irate dry eyes. Doing those 2 things have solved my eye problems and my vision has improved.

Good to know, perhaps the heat from your mask achieves the same as a hot eye bath? xxx

Yes, it's exactly the same principal, it's just very relaxing to lie back with a warm pack on your eyes 😊

Mmmmm, I like the sound of that!

I am relieved to hear that I am not the only woman on Ibrance with this problem. My eyes have been quite watery and itchy and the pharmacist said it could be dry eye. Now that I hear so many of us have this I am more convinced this is the problem. I have certainly never had allergies.

Is it the letrozole or the Ibrance or both?

Good question, as Letrozole takes out any oestrogen I thought it must be that, ditto dry skin, nails and hair - but I don't know if Ibrance does it too?

Thanks for the tip. I've had dry eye for years and finally had to give up my contacts when chemo made the dry eye worse and I had a contact stuck. The drugs definitely exacerbate the issue and I will add this tip into my routine. I also take fish oil - per my eye doctor.
