A little humor about having to self-quarantine

It can get overwhelming so sometimes it is necessary to inject a little humor.

The Shining, who could forget that one. The family's worse nightmare! You said you were from New York. Why do they think there are so many outbreaks there? More travelers? Close quarters? Stay safe and try to stay in.

Hoping not to go stir crazy !!!! ...I think it’s the density of the population in N.Y. as well as the movement of people . ( London too is the worst affected area in the U.K. !) . Stay home ! x

I think they did not do a shutdown or quarantine as quickly as they should have once cases started popping up. Unlike China, where it started, China immediately did a complete shut down as they were obviously aware or just made better choices. Than Italy actually stated that their biggest mistake was that they also did not shut down or quarantine people as soon as they should have.

NY has loads of big businesses in the City. I think it was the same reaction. We had a few cases and then BOOM. Within it seemed like a week, it just went berserk and by the time they shut down all big businesses and the schools, the spread was already way too far gone.

Our Gov. said we have 5% of the entire world's infected patients. He said this is like a true war. He said it is now DOUBLING every three days just in NY. We have 16,000 people infected in NY and almost now 10,000 just in New York City alone which is terrifying.

They are inspected to be overrun with patients in another week or so. They have forbidden any non-essential employees from working. They are now preparing for the inevitable load of patients who will be getting sick and they dont have enough beds, ventilators, nurses, etc. They are now taking over hotels and other places and making them into hospitals.

We are told to stay in and to do not leave the house to "flatten the curve." Because more and more of us will become infected but they are hoping not to have thousands getting seriously sick at once. It will be in waves....There will be a large influx of people being hospitalized and they will be treating them so by forcing us to stay home...they get these people fixed the best they can, until the second wave of sick people starting need hospital treatment. Right now, they are sharing ventilators among patients and that can't be good.

Stores have no food. People are paralyzed with fear. I have to leave my house even though advised not to. I need food and there is no food where I live so I have to take a bus.

Now some medical personnel are getting infected bc they don't have the proper masks and insulation they need. God help us if the medical professionals start falling sick bc then there is nobody to treat us.

I think (maybe my fear) that it will be like in Italy where they have to decide who they will treat (bc they will likely have a better chance of surviving this vs. those who they knows will not make it.)

NY is a busy city. You take the trains here you are on top of each other.

Like the Gov. said, we still have thousands that are infected but don't know it yet. If you are young and healthy, you can have it and maybe feel a bit sick, but it will resolve itself.

But if like me and many thousands of NYers, you have any sort of respiratory issue or immune problems, it is going to be tough.

The first person recorded was in New Rochelle. They thought at first, it was ONLY people that traveled to China and Italy.

This man was an attorney who had not left the country at all. He worked in midtown and felt really sick. His neighbor who drove him to hospital (not thinking it was the virus) got infected, the attorneys's kids got infected and I think that was the major sign that this man had not traveled outside the country and got infected.

He had been to a funeral the week before and they tested those people, and they were also infected so it has been here but until this attorney got ill, they did not realize it and that it was the same virus that started in China.

I agree re: very scary in NYC. I'm sooooo glad that my son left Manhattan 3 weeks ago, spent a week in Philly with his gf, then they both drove to quasi-rural VT to isolate with her family. I think they're past the 14 day mark, so all appears to be well! So sad for the folks affected, though.

And NYer's are coming through, as always..."My son's lease" is actually in my name, so I'm getting all of the emails. The building has asked for residents to volunteer to staff the door/desk, including regularly disinfecting elevator buttons, etc. So many residents have volunteered to get groceries/other items for high risk neighbors, etc. I'm also on the mailing list for my fave restaurant, Coarse, and Chef Vince is offering to deliver meals to folks in need. Silver lining...This virus sucks but humans are (sometimes) great!

Stay strong, stay well, Aamkearns. Wishing you the best!

Lynn

Thanks. I hope your son is not planning on returning to NY right now. It is not the best time. He was smart. Tell him to stay away for a while. Younger people , though in good health, seem to handle it better and it resolves itself.

Me, with the cancer in my lungs, my age 60 and my compromised immune system..I could see me waiting on line to get treated and then saying Sorry, you don't qualify to be treated bc you are already unhealthy, NEXT. That may become a reality.

Thank you so much for your detailed reply and insight. Stay well and be safe. We too are experiencing shortages, but probably nothing like you. I haven't found toilet paper in two weeks, but was lucky to have had a large roll from before. If people would have not horded, I don't think there would have been a problem. I'm in California so we too are in lock-down.

SoCalLady - My daughter's in LA...found TP on Monday by showing up at the store first thing in the morning. Rationing definitely in place, but it looks like some might be available...Good luck with it! :)

I lucked out in that respect. Just before "it exploded", I had placed an order for peapod. Since I do not drive, I order large quantity items from Peapod so they had 20 rolls of TP so I ordered them, I got 10 double size Bounty (SCORE), face wipes, shampoo, 10 jugs of gatorade (fruit punch flavor, of course), Lysol spray cleaner, two bottles, and 35 bottles of water. Now Peapod is out of most items, backed up for two weeks.

I live alone yet when home all the time, you go through TP so I have enough cleaning products and cleansing products, just not enough food.

I have to laugh though. Even though I bought the quantity of 20 rolls (I only use Scott..my bottom is spoiled), each one is individually wrapped.

I just unwrapped another five to put on my holder in the bathroom (well, really it's a plunger but I use it as a toilet paper holder) and for the first time as I was pulling the wrapping of each one I see it had guidelines:

"Each roll should last a week for an average size family." (Based on estimates of 1,000 people). A week, are they serious. I live alone and go through more than one roll per week but I have the cleanest (and biggest) butt in Brooklyn for sure LOL

in reply to

OMG, I've never investigates averages, but I think I'm typically well above average in TP usage! My gosh, the things we are now openly discussing these days! :)

in reply to

True I was on the phone a week ago for about an hour with a friend in FL and the whole topic of our discussion was our bowel movements. I said OMG...when did we stop talking about men, vacations, clothes, etc. and now our hot topic is our bowel movements.

When younger I used to question why do old people (then anyone over 40 was old) talk about arthritis or the doctor visits, etc. I swore I would never be that type of old lady and here I am discussing bowel movements on a hour long phone call. Suddenly you realize I am at that place. We laughed about it at the end of our phone call.

Smile 😏😏

Aamkearns...When I read a headline about you posting something humorous, you KNOW I need to click through! :) That pic is very funny.... :) Thanks!

Well , either we will see alot of babies being born, or alot of divorces. Husbands and wives and kids forced to stay together in a small home or apt.

Our governor has told people coming from New York that they need to quarantine for 14 days. I guess when the virus hit there, many jumped on planes to get out. Goodness.

I liked your humor. Lol

in reply toKMBL_

Makes sense. It is like a war zone here in NY so other states do not want it to happen there.
