Immunotherapy-Chemotherapy *Update*

Hello All,

So I just finished my first month of immunotherapy+chemotherapy (Tecentriq+Abraxane) and so far so good. The sessions are weekly for three weeks, two meds the first week, one med the second week (just the chemo), and two meds the third week. One week off and then the cycle begins again. It feels weird not experiencing any side effects (I think my hair got a tadbit thinner but not sure). Like am I going to get slammed in a month or two, not able to get out of bed? I just remember some queasiness and physical weakness the first time I ever had chemotherapy (6 years ago).

I’m just dealing with these blood clots in my lungs that appeared prior to me starting this new regimen so it looks like I’ll be on blood thinners for the rest of my life (your blood gets thicker with cancer and blood clots are your body’s attempt to contain the cancer) but only on oxygen for the next 3-6 months (it takes about that long for the blood clots to clear up and for the body to reabsorb them). Bummed that I had to cancel the rest of my trips for the year but it is what it is. I have 18 sessions so this treatment should be over around April 2020 and then my oncologist will let me know the next step (I heard back to oral chemo).

I’m Triple Negative- wondering if that combination would work for me- on a drug holiday right now from Afinitor- it almost killed me - hemoglobin down to 6.6 needed 2 units of blood the other day. What type do you have??

I am also triple negative. Well, only 10% ER positive, which is considered to be triple negative. So far, this treatment is only available to those with MBC who are triple negative so it may be good to bring this up to your oncologist. Hopefully they’ll at least be open to discussing it. 🙂

Thanks- I was hoping to avoid IV- I was on xeloda for over 3 years - maybe I can try it again- my son is getting married in May and I really want my own hair!

No, I haven’t been on Xeloda, just Ibrance with Faslodex and Lupron and now Tecentriq with Abraxane and still Lupron.
